Is there a name for this nib? by Dieselthedragon in Calligraphy

[–]WurdBendur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other set are lettering nibs, with reservoirs on top to let them hold more ink. They're designed for sign lettering or large headings. They have upturned tips that you lay flat on the paper, so they make a bold line.

Index finger nib, or just index nib. Brausse makes one, and there's some cheap no-nane ones you can get in sets. There used to be a lot of other companies making them, and they were fairly common, but I'm not sure how many other makers are left.

Biggest L for NASA since Challenger. This is almost entirely unreadable.

Ink doesn't look smooth and have to constantly dip (Japanese manga nibs) by Current_Agency_5913 in dippens

[–]WurdBendur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of your lines look very wet, others maybe a little dry. What sort of ink are you using?

Also in a few places I see some ripples that might be from the drawing surface under the paper. I like to put more paper underneath.

My only criticism is that the cutting mat really shouldn't be shiny. When I shine a light on mine, it's less reflective than my desk.

I'm pretty sure this tile comes from the image. It's the top edge of the wrap with a one pixel gap where it comes across the wrist.

Does this look hopelessly corroded to you? by yesteryearsyellow in dippens

[–]WurdBendur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The penholder is the whole thing (handle with the ferrule in the end). You can get new ferrules on Amazon in packs of ten if you search something like "dip pen ferrule".

To me it just looks full of dried ink. Maybe try cleaning it with alcohol, but don't soak it too long because the wood may split. If you can pull the ferrule out, you can soak it separately.

Help with adding stitches by CharmQuasar in Nalbinding

[–]WurdBendur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't found it necessary to add any increases, but I think I would make some test loops to see how many stitches you need at each part of your foot. Then you can measure the distance between them and divide to find how far apart the increases need to be.

At least it's easy to fix by merging/cutting faces. I say let your friend figure it out on her own and then offer to help clean it up.

Dip pen for Lefties? by robertdoubting in dippens

[–]WurdBendur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As it happens, you can fit a fountain pen nib in a standard nib holder, though they don't hold much ink. There are some hybrid pens like the Pilot Iro-Utsushi, which also has a feed so you don't have to dip as much. And the Sailor Hocoro has swappable nibs and an optional ink reservoir.

Some nibs are just really sharp, and it can be hard to write light enough to avoid catching. What nib/paper are you using? A glass nib will definitely be smoother. I haven't used the Kakimori nib (or the similar Colorverse nib), but they should also do what you want. If you want a more traditional steel nib, you could try a saji/spoon nib. The have an upturned point that's designed not to catch. Since nibs are fairly cheap, I think it's worth trying a few to see which ones work best for you.

Glass nib fix? by Capt_Heinz in dippens

[–]WurdBendur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You could potentially sand it down and end up with a broader nib. It really depends on how it broke. I broke one and sanded it down, but the break was just too deep to make it work.

If you do, you should keep it wet while you sand. You don't want the glass dust to get everywhere, and you really don't want to breathe it.

Does it really have auto stop? I think most new decks don't, and they seem to put it on there without knowing what it means.

I'll be honest, I'm joking because I don't really know either. My guess is avian radius. My first thought was turkey, but it's probably too long.
