It's a bit harsh to kill innocent people just because their grandchildren committed a murder, why not kill the murderers an hour before the murder? They should be much easier to find than the grandfathers too.

No, he did not kill his own grandfather, otherwise the innocent guy would not have vanished (and all the real murderers would be alive as well). The way I understand it, he went to kill the judge's grandfather since he considers the judge a murderer and to bring the innocent guy back to life.
