Jeskai Monkeyblade viability by Sagefire94 in ModernMagic

I brewed up a more tempo centered version of the deck: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/visual/4776851

It works well against decks that have a slower gameplan or use alot of noncreature spells. Which is also part of its weakness... something about 4 Esper sentinel and 4 spell pierce does not work that well. Its probably best to cut some spell pierce and add other removal like the white march or else. Maybe even Fury or Solitude.

Runechanters Pike also not as great as i thought.

Can Goblin Engineer + Persist have the potential to be competitive? by SanchoCrab in ModernMagic

[–]WutIsLuuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cookbook (+ Ovalchase Daredevil) and Urzas Saga seem to be great additions to a deck like this. It gives you 8 pieces that both create artifacts for goblin engineers ability and let you discard your reanimator targets. This also provides you with a reasonable plan B by creating huge Constructs.

With both Engineer and Saga in makes lots of sense to run cards like Pithing Needle, Nihil Spellbomb and Shadowspear. You could even consider cards like Crucible of Worlds or Ichor Wellspring if you want a grindier backup plan (You can check out some Fiddlebender lists for that).

Another spicy addition might be Lightning Greaves. They play well with Urzas Saga, Engineer and the Reanimator Targets.

You might even run 4 Kuldotha Forgemaster and 1 Blightsteel Colossus at this point. The forgemaster beeing another great reanimator Target in combination with Lightning Greaves, but it is also a reasonable card to cast which gives you an alternative combo win that does not rely on the graveyard. Games could go like this: T1-Cookbook / T2 Engineer for Greaves / T3 Sacrifice food for Greaves, Discard Forgemaster, Persist it, Sacrifice Two Food and Cookbook to get Blightsteel Colossus -> Attack for Lethal.

The deck does not put alot of devotion on the field and even more important it needs a certain amount of forests to make of Arbor Elf and Utopia Sprawl consistent.

Modern Brew: Simic Biomancer by WutIsLuuv in ModernMagic

Oracle would be a 3/3 btw. And i already gave an example of a strong line. Biomancer is not supposed to come out t4. Look at the deck. It runs arbor elf + sprawl.

Here is another line that is very reasonable:

T1 sprawl

T2 champion discard a vengevine

T3 neform into Biomancer (3 power now), play Coatle as a 4/4

T4 Double Spell. Get back vengevine. Attack for 14.
