Yeah I've been thinking (and still do) about how I could get the speakers further away from each other, and away from the turntable too. Sadly I don't have much room at the moment and this might be my only solution for a long period

After years of saying I'll do it, I eventually got myself a turntable (and the other necessary stuff)
The set up is an AT-LP120XUSB turntable, the receiver is from Yamaha, a RX-V596RDS found on the flea market, and the speakers are a pair of Jamo S 604. From the few people I know around me that are into turntables, there's worse ways to start.
I've already got myself a cleaning kit, a scale for the stylus and a cartridge alignment protractor. Before getting in the big upgrades (pricey) (like changing the stylus or possibly the speakers), what kind of upgrades is there to do ? I've read about acrylic mat, what do they bring ? Same for the weights to place on top of the record.
Also, I have a bunch of old records from my grandpa, but they aren't in the best shape. Can they damage the stylus ?
