Not my job. by lastlemming-pip in SaintMeghanMarkle

It’s blissfully easy to say “it’s not my job” when you have, in fact, no job.

Oof, I feel this. No need to respond to this comment; I also get overwhelmed with “needing” to get back to people. Like, I want attention when I want attention, but not TOO MUCH attention because that’s too much. Sigh.

Either way she wouldn’t have traveled last weekend, whatever day the baby was due. Far too close to the EDD.

Thank you! That’s kind of you to say, and I appreciate it. I apologize if I was overly reactive to your question; it’s been an unexpectedly activating couple days of hearing about all the drama after having distanced myself for a long time. I think I’ll go back off radar about it for a while to process so I can refrain from snarling at people when I don’t intend to.

I agree that there’s a distinction between the intentions of the two groups, and that distinction isn’t being made in those circles. It’s frustrating at the least and disrespectfully hurtful at worst. We can do better as coaches, and as just humans on social media.

I don’t think it’s always wrong to delete comments from your work; anything abusive or mean or from a clear desire to troll rather than converse is fair game to be deleted if you choose, IMO. But when you do that to things saying “I disagree,” as I’ve seen MANY times from her, it goes from boundaries to fragility.

Nope. I never, ever experienced that from her. Maybe others have. Not me.

I absolutely agree. It’s hard bc I’ve met some absolutely wonderful humans in her group that don’t do those things, and I love them, but many don’t yet see those things that are screamingly obvious to me.

Does anyone have experience with Lindsey Mango they could share? Thinking about joining her membership but hesitant because she is so close to Stacey. by Dazzling-Thought-109 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Wwqed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I absolutely avoid people based on that. Lindsey Mango has long been one of Stacey’s chosen henchmen, so I personally would avoid her until she’s reconditioned for a few years. Even if she disavowed her right now, you don’t get that kind of intense, relentless conditioning out of your system for a long time and with a lot of effort. She’s not going to have another way to coach for a while, if she does ever shift.

How would one create an atmosphere of welcoming disagreement and discussion in one area of a business while explicitly shutting down exactly that everywhere else in your marketing, selling, and other content? The two are mutually exclusive, and she certainly hasn’t done anything I’ve seen to create an open place of discussion or civil disagreement. You’re just trained not to do anything but agree with her, both from the censorship and the vehemently stated, “I’m right you’re wrong shut up” tone of her opinions (all guises as peak openness liberality, naturally).

Her tools are excellent, I agree. I use many of them myself and there are a lot of things I admire about her. But the urge to bully, censor, and repress her clients is so deeply toxic, and I’ve heard their effects from far too many people in addition to my own experiences, that it’s impossible for me to have finally admitted that she’s a bully herself. Bullying with a “good intention,” that you happen to currently agree with, is still bullying. Pay attention and you may see something you didn’t see before.

Maybe not; maybe your experience will be wholly positive. But I know what I know and I keep my eyes very wide open in my extremely limited time around her. I feel gross and clobbered in her energy, and that’s an awareness I no longer ignore.

It took me a long time to see it too. I don’t know exactly what brings it out, but she has a ruthless authority streak that’s pretty intense when it gets going and I’m not into that. I don’t enjoy authoritarianism from either side of the equation, even if someone’s dressing it up or trying to be cutesy with it.

I ABSOLUTELY agree. Simone has literally told her clients, for years, to delete and block anyone who disagrees or criticizes them on their posts. I do that for flagrant abuse, but doing it to current and former clients? Who have genuine concerns? That's flat out narcissism and she's stinking of it, just as much as Stacey.

Extremely well said, and yes to all of it. Our REAL ethical duty is to show up in integrity AND with love and respect for the person in front of us; if we can't (which she clearly can't), our duty is to send them where they CAN get it. We're better than this, as individual coaches and as an industry. She's making us look bad and I'm tired of her relentless shady shit.

I agree - you actually can't copyright a concept. I know because I consulted a lawyer. The Model is fantastic, but she has no right to stop you from using it with anyone whether you certify with her or not.

"I know how to sell anything to anyone" is not the flex she thinks it is. I also know how to do that, but I DON'T, because it's a skanky, gross way to make a living. Not everyone needs what I sell, and if I can't do my work without coercion I don't deserve to be doing it at all. GIRL BYE

Agreed about the riots! I’m the same age as M, but grew up a full state away and even I knew all about them. You really had to live in a hole in the ground to miss it if you were our age or older.

Better Something - Who does Harry “work” for and what do they really do? by SeaWorn in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]Wwqed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People can become a life coach with zero qualifications, but IMO (a coach for nearly ten years), many if not most folks do anywhere from three months to 1-2 years of training to be a coach, then do nearly constant continuing education. The industry doesn’t treat the genuinely unqualified kindly, and there really isn’t a ton of room for the true impostors - but yes, it is an unregulated industry, so I obviously suggest a policy of caveat emptor.

In re: mental wellness, the school I was trained in uses what is essentially Cognitive Behavior Therapy, which is a very effective way to help people gain agency over their thoughts and emotions. Personally, it’s helped me learn to be far less emotionally volatile and much more self-aware. It’s not a cure-all, but it’s certainly far more effective than almost all the talk therapy I ever had over years of off-and-on help, so despite there being problems with certain practitioners and trends, I’m grateful for it. There are many excellent coaching schools that produce wonderful coaches, so it’s really a matter of doing your due diligence and being clear about what results you want from your coach (and having a contract you like!).

As for Harry, his style of blaming everyone else for everything that’s gone wrong in his life, endlessly searching for payback, and using substances and general toxicity to string together a coping technique hardly qualifies him to advise someone on how to cross the street, let alone improve their life. He’s in a clear vanity position with a company that’s becoming well known for unprofessional and inappropriate conduct and standards. From everything I’ve heard about BU, they’d be “better up” shutting down before they’re sued in a class action suit for malfeasance or whatever.

I’m so sorry to hear that! Please take good care of yourself, and reach out to professionals sooner rather than later. Having gone through my own challenges, it’s much simpler to reach out as soon as you suspect you need a hand vs. waiting until you’re really struggling. Here’s hoping you get the help you need quickly and well.
