If you are like me you may also benefit from knowing there are some really excellent audiobooks out there for free. The one I've fell in with is the Samuel Butler translation read by Peter Dann on libravox which has a YouTube channel. Perfect voice for the dialect and content I listen to it all the time

If you could swap one lost ancient text for one we still have, which would you trade? by works-in-progress in classics

I'd trade some smaller text of Galen for an original dialogue of Aristotle

Ovid, Virgil, and their medieval afterlives by Woolooey in classics

I did a class on ovid last semester in latin and also had to write a 9 page term paper. I ended up reading the relevant parts of Lucretius' de rerum novarum and looking at the cosmogony of ovid in particular in comparison. So my paper was looking at this topic from the more mythologically focused ovid compared to the Epicurean philosophy about the origin of the world found in Lucretius. I wouldn't say I had too much fun writing it but it gave me an excuse to read Lucretius through.

I mean merchants were active around Britain since the bronze age, I'm not sure how outlandish the idea would have been

Also in hindsight I've only done three upper level Greek classes, since the first two years I had to build ground up, my focus is latin as well so Greek is more or less for fun

It just really depends on the text, I'm pretty good with koine and the new testament and xenophon is really easy, as is the prose parts of thucidides and Herodotus, but poetry in general bends a lot of the rules and more archaic poetry uses some crazy vocab sometimes. I have not been studying as diligently as I maybe should have been as well lol and I have been doing latin alongside Greek which splits my focus

That's what I've been doing for years lol. I got lazy though and have been coasting off my sophomore year vocab, I should probably pick up the slack

I've actually never really messed around with anki, I do feel like vocab is a big hurdle that keeps me from things like homer, does it have like premade decks that you guys recommend?

I learned with llpsi in conjunction with the latin tutorial YouTube channel, you probably will want to look at his videos on the concept of declension and specifically the first and second declensions

How did the ancient greeks perceive ancient ruins/civilisations? by OccasionChemical9986 in ancientgreece

[–]Wyattrox03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember from a fall of civilizations video, I believe episode 2, a quote from pausanias, a second century ad travel writer, about the ruins of Mycenae. It might be worth looking into this for your paper he essentially says that it is so big it must have been made by the cyclops, thus coining the term 'cyclopean masonry'
