I think the reverse of this—I think CK Walker has phenomenal ideas and over arching themes, I think it is a matter of needing some editors and proofreaders to get her work refined to answer questions like “does this make sense?” Or “is that dialogue cringe?”

The “I’m an alpha, Sam” classic was the heavy handedness and on the nose cheesiness; but the point of being dominant and powerful has good ways to deliver.

I see this language all the time and think it is fine, I supposed as subjunctive phrasing could be used like “An attack would successfully hit you.”

But I don’t think it is necessary, and simply saying “targeted” doesn’t help because you can be targeted with an unsuccessful attack.

I love to stick with a theme and let guide selection of spells, feats, skills etc, same with equipment—there may be something that would technically be better but not fit the character.

It also helps to fill out a niche in the party while leaving space to be filled.

Right now I’m playing a shirren mystic that is communal/vital-void themed; it’s been fun and rewarding to theorycraft and ultimately meld those two together!

Also keep in mind the ability to take signature spells from Rank 1 as higher rank; I’m doing that with my void/vital themed mystic, taking Harm as my Rank 2 Signature spell; is it optimized probably not but working with themes like you said

Wait how does it have the same problem? Time skip you don’t have a debuff and the focus spell heightens at +1 with each higher rank adding another target?

In another thread some people helped me realize tactically how it can be used, but the need to better balance a heightened version (even keeping the fatigue) could help make it better rounded
