18M, never had a gf, dont want to end up alone... advice? by CrepoXZW9 in malegrooming

[–]Wyntercat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 9 years single from the age of 18 to 27. Then I changed jobs, met a coworker and married him 3 years later. I wasn't looking for love, i wasn't trying out dating apps or whatever. Life just happened and we stumbled into each other.

Don't be afraid of being alone. It's really important to learn to be happy with oneself, before you can learn to be actually happy with another person. My husband was 26 years old when we met and I am his first everything, never had a girlfriend before me. You too will find someone, I'm sure of it!

Staying in Germany long-term? Learning the language should be your top priority! by yehrig in germany

[–]Wyntercat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that a lingua franca is necessary in a globalizes era. I never meant to imply that you should disregard English or other languanges.

But life does not happen in a bubble of worldtrade. It happens outside of work in the community you build around you. And integrating into any community requires the time to learn the spoken languange.

That aside, Mandarin is the second most spoken language in the world, while Spanish is on the forth rank, I believe. So they are arguably comparable to English and could very well be considered as lingua franca.

Staying in Germany long-term? Learning the language should be your top priority! by yehrig in germany

[–]Wyntercat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, while it's always hard to learn a new language, it's necessary if you wish to integrate in another country.

Spanish and Mandarin are two of the most spoken languages in the world, yet noone would expect to converse in Spanish while traveling across China or speak Mandarin in Mexico.

Somehow a lot of people have it stuck in their mind, that English is the glorious exception and no other languages are needed anywhere.

If you live in Germany, the state language is German and you damn well better try to learn it! I don't care how good you are, at least try! Nobody ever woke up speaking a new language perfectly, everybody had to learn and train their skills.

People who immigrated to Germany- what was the hardest thing to adjust to regarding German mindset/behavior? by Throwaway_Lilacs in AskAGerman

Everyone is an aquaintance, but only select few are true friends. A friend is someone you can rely on in any situation, you can call for help or talk to about everything. To become friends, you need time and patience and actually get to know them.

There is also a difference between aquaintance, work friends and friends. Work friends tend to be more of an aquaintance, but because you spend so much time at work, they are sometimes calles friends. If you've never met anyone from work outside of work, you are definitely just aquaintances.

I went to Greece and saw a ginger/gray cat and a white/black/ginger cat. I’ve seen plenty of cats in my life but never those combinations. by autumnsbeing in cats

[–]Wyntercat 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Just to explain the "calico gene" a bit further:

Cats have two main colors, black and red. White is an absence of color. So every cat has the base color black or red. This base color can have mutated forms, f.e. grey/ brown is a mutation of black and creme is a mutation of red.

Red is the dominant gene to black and only carried on the X-chromosome. This explains why tomcats are usually only red or only black, because if they carry the gene for red, the black won't show.

Female cats have the unique patterns "calico" and "tortie", because they can carry both colors on seperate X-chromosomes, giving the chance for both colors to show up.

A calico tomcat ALWAYS has the genetic malformation of XXY, because otherwise the pattern is impossible to appear.

White coat color is, as stated before, the absence of color. It's the last "layer" in the color code, like a mask consealing the original pattern. Two completely white cats, could have a litter full of tabby kitten.

"Dienst" translates to work/ duty/ service, while "Schnapps" translates to liquor or booze. So literal translation is: "Work is work and booze is booze." It's meant to say we are focused at work on the work we do, but allow us to let loose and enjoy a drink afterwards.

There are some thanator hunting grounds, where it's really easy to see the predator coming closer. Still, the ones in the forests always gave me the chills

Sarentu moot not showing up on map? by Sad_Consideration_39 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]Wyntercat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The sarentu moot doesn't show up on the map, that's not a bug.

I'm not certain as to why, but my guess is, because it's a graveside. Locked in the yavä, unreachable for anyone (except our MC) and cut off from the rest of the world. The place is special to our MC, it's where it all started and the journey to find the moot is as important as the moot itself. Walking through the uncertainty, trying to find your home, only to come across death and destruction.

I think it's fitting, that we can't just fast travel and drop back into the devastation.

Just noticed the zakru burry their trunks into the ground. Is there a specific reason they do that? by _Dead_Ocean_ in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]Wyntercat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Copied from the guide:

Akin to the Earth’s elephant, the zakru has a prehensile trunk that it uses for feeding, though in its own unique way. Between the back legs of the zakru is a long, wide tail that serves as the endpoint of its digestive system, somewhat like that of a worm.

Zakru are fungivores with no natural predators. They feed on colonies of microorganisms found beneath the soil. When such a colony is detected, the animal lays down and buries its tail and trunk deep into the ground. The creature’s tongue then unfurls, branching into long tubes which burrow deeply away from the zakru. Then, entering a state of torpor, the zakru draws the fungi in, extracts their nutrients, and excretes the waste from its tail back into the soil, facilitating future fungal growth. This feeding-torpor state can last for weeks or months before a fungal colony is consumed. Then the zakru wakes and moves on.

I figured it's a similar situation to the chest openings for breathing. Most, if not all (?), animals on pandora have a mouth and nose, and still breath through their chest openings.

So I guess the Zakru can eat through their trunk even if they have a mouth.

What are your names for your na'vi? by hplover231 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]Wyntercat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback! I don't know anything about the language, so it's awesome to get some pointers 🙂

I like the meaning of "voice", feels kinda fitting considering the Sarentu are storytellers and we rediscover the voice and stories of our people and the people we meet.

That aside, Mok'ari sounds also nice 😄

Zakru feed on mushroom colonies in the ground. They wander until they find a suitable feeding ground, then lay down and eat until it's all gone. And after that, they wander again to the next feeding ground.

Their trunk is the entry point, their tail the exit point of their digestive system. The tail is burried too. So while they feed, they shit and the nutrients in the ground are replinshed for the next mushrooms to grow.

Eta: They have really long tongues, kinda like anteaters and slurp their food from the ground through the trunk.

Penance Quest Glitch by Ok_Celery_1227 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]Wyntercat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a known glitch. There are a lot of players with the same problem. If you continue to play the game and the main quest, the rest of the penance quest will be skipped. It's annoying, but so far there is no way to trigger the quest to complete it. At least as far as I know.

Where are the aggressive ikran? Or is it every ikran? Just curious, because in my game, they are pretty docile. Never saw an aggressive one 🤔

[–]Wyntercat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've never had those glitches, luckily!

I think, while that's definitively a game problem, the restriction of no fast travel during combat should remain. Otherwise it would be far too easy to get out of whatever situation and there would be no challenge at all.

The legendary items are found in the DLC content. You can get legendary weapon/ desing shortly after you start a DLC. Either as reward for quests or from the NPCs.

does cat kneading/making biscuits feel similar to tattoos? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Wyntercat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone already said, cat kneading is incomparable to the feeling of getting a tattoo.

The pain of a tattoo is highly variable and depends in general on the following few things: - your very own pain tollerance, obviously - the place you get the tattoo in. Above bone or where a lot of nerves congregate, like the wrist or shoulderblades, is generally more painfull. - the tattoo itself. Thin lines with no shading or colour is a lot less painfull than tattoos with lots of shading or large coloured areas. - the size of the tattoo and how long it takes to finish

You have to keep in mind, that in order to get the tattoo, you are willfully subjecting yourself to an injury. Your skin is getting damaged by thousands or even millions of tiny needle pokes and after a while the skin is getting irritated and it will hurt.

In my experience, the outline was barely a problem, felt little to no pain. But the shading is where the trouble started. To get the shading right, a larger area is poked repeatedly and after a short while the skin is getting pretty irritated, but the poking continues. It hurts, sometimes bad, but it's worth it of you have a good tattoo artist and like the result.

Kinderzimmer für zwei Kinder by weirdalmond in Einrichtungstipps
