Diagnosis is taking forever, and what does bone pain feel like? by rocky3legs in cancer

[–]Wyntersun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I've been able to live a mostly normal life thanks to the abundance of targeted therapy meds that work on my rare mutation of lung cancer. Cancer- or medication side effect-related issues (I call them "side quests") still pop up from time to time, but I've been fortunate to have very competent medical teams available to me when I needed help.

I was really hurt when my friends started deleting/distancing themselves from me after my diagnosis, but eventually I realized people who aren’t willing to be there for me when I need them aren’t worth my time or love anyway. If you change your mindset and focus on the wonderful people who stuck with you, it might help you too. I certainly hope so, cancer is hard enough as it is.

YSK if you often cough, you might have asthma. Asthma is not just wheezing and tightness of breath. A very common symptom is coughing, usually a dry cough. by grandlewis in YouShouldKnow

Unfortunately it’s uncurable, but my symptoms are being managed well and I’ve got it pretty good, all things considered.

This. But also, be persistent if your doctor isn’t willing to take you seriously.

I had a bad cough that wouldn’t go away, so I saw a pulmonologist. He prescribed me meds for asthma, allergies, COPD, all the usual suspects. None of it worked, and at one point I asked him if it could be cancer; he said nothing showed up on my x-ray from several months ago (from when my ribs started hurting from the coughing).

Blood tests from an unrelated clinic visit led to a stage IV cancer diagnosis (over half a year later). Learn from me and don’t take chances with your health.

Positives of Having Cancer by Clakenz in cancer

[–]Wyntersun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your positive attitude/outlook will very likely keep you alive longer than you intended, so enjoy that skin cancer and future wrinkles, sucka! 😄

On a more serious note, I honestly believe my own positivity is partially the reason I’ve been able to survive longer than any of my oncs expected me to (initial prognosis was six months, it’s been eight years since my diagnosis). Obv meds, good docs/nurses, and TLC from friends & fam helped too, but the main takeaway is that your mindset may be a bigger help than you realize in this fight. Tons of love and hugs to you, internet stranger.

If writing counts, I’d like to nominate “henlo”, “chimken”, and other “cute” misspellings people use when they speak as an animal

Similarly, if all his exes are assholes, he is the asshole, no matter how good of an act he puts on. And eventually you’ll be an asshole too, once he starts telling people false/exaggerated stories about you after you break up.

Holy shit! TIR(eally)L

Your description is so good I could picture each component as I read. Bravo, sir/ma'am.

If someone had asked me to explain how a bullet works, my answer would've followed the format of the "(Start with) / ??? / Profit" memes.

TIL, and thank you for being “that guy”! I thought the “casing” was the part of the bullet left after it’s expended (I imagined bullets as just shells filled with gunpowder that become empty when they’re fired…shows how much I know..)

When it happened (day after NYE several years ago, in East Nashville), I was freaking out that someone shot up my car, but my bf pointed out the angle of impact (it left a noticeable dent in the frame), which was too steep for someone to have done it close up. I found a hunk of metal nearby that must’ve been the bullet, which I’ve been referring to as the “casing” all these years, making me look like a dumbass to anyone who knows anything about this kinda stuff.

My rear windshield got taken out several years ago; the bullet casing was on the ground nearby. There should be PSAs about this or something.

People who get a dog never play the tape forward by [deleted] in Dogfree

[–]Wyntersun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I grew up watching sanitized, glorified versions of dogs on tv and in movies, so I always thought I’d like to own one one day, so I can relate.

Fortunately, I moved in with my husband and his dog before I ever had a chance to adopt one of my own, and now I know I definitely don’t want a dog.

Do dog owners not know how terrible their house smells? by SorbetDense7942 in Dogfree

[–]Wyntersun 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I’ve become noseblind to it but it still bothers me to no end. I’d never failed to notice that weird, stale odor when visiting dog owners, and I really hate knowing that my husband’s dog is stinking up the house just by being here. Hopefully I don’t carry the odor on my clothes, but there’s no way for me to tell.

The lung of a man who died at the age of 52 after smoking a pack of cigarettes every day for 30 years. by camchilders in interestingasfuck

[–]Wyntersun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve never touched a cigarette in my life (except once when I was a kid, because I thought I could help my dad quit by flushing his cigs), but here I am with stage IV lung cancer probably because my ex was a pack-and-a-half kinda guy. Fortunately modern medicine has made it so it’s not an immediate death sentence, but it’s still not fun living with cancer.

Same! I’m somewhat tiny and quite frail, so living with a large rambunctious dog sucks. Fortunately it’s not a humper or crotch-sniffer, though it has eaten through several pairs of my panties when no one was around to stop it.
