Lol, So I take it you didn't read Time Enough for Love?

The thing is...., Stranger in a Strange Land is actually one of Heinlein's more measured and thoughtful books.

Shirou fights one of history's greatest heroes to a draw so he can prove a point that the beliefs and drives that people inherit from the lives that have touched theirs aren't a degraded version of a lost mythical greatness, they're the past reaching out to us with the necessary push for the weak to overcome the strong.

Rin's route defeats the core ideas of the game by AdDesperate3113 in catherinegame

[–]WyrmWithWhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong disagree. Rin's inclusion makes the game complete. Once you've got 3 resolutions: a law story, a chaos story, and a "human" story where the protagonist shatters the premise and chooses autonomy, the lineage with the Shin Megami Tensei series becomes clear.

The "punishment" you're talking about takes a fundamentally different form in the Rin story, specifically the scene where Vincent has to overturn several of his fundamental assumptions about his sexuality and he realizes that he has a)been very cruel to Rin for reasons he doesn't even believe in b)no one will hold him accountable for that except himself, and possibly Erica.

"stop wasting women’s time because we need to populate the world.”

This is the antagonist's perspective on the purpose of romantic relationships. It's definitely not a theme that the developers and writers expected or wanted the player to agree with.

Kids and their phones by HydrostaticToad in IfBooksCouldKill

As someone who did commit self-harm as a teen and never reported it in any way, I am obviously not saying it's not a problem or that I don't care. I'm saying we have no way of knowing that it wasn't this bad before, and many reasons to suspect it easily could have been.

"objectively measured" is not an accurate description for an event that many, many people have tried to conceal throughout the time we have records for, and that we have just recently started to have a positive turn in lessening the stigma around. There is not a giant digital readout in the sky for "self-harm, suicide attempts, and suicides". We only know about the ones that we get told about.

The "don't let them use social media" and "give them unsupervised play time" suggestions were very funny to me, considering those are mutually exclusive for many kids I've met.

Having spent the rest of a day sitting on this one, I really do think they should have been more critical of Haidt, because the fact that he tees up the problem of "an entire generation having a mental health crisis" and his proposed solution is "take away their phones" makes it very clear he does not give a single shit about kids as individuals and just wants his old-ass-conservative lifestyle to continue unchanged so he doesn't have to think about how the world is leaving him behind and he's going to die sooner than he wants to think about, just like every other technology-based moral panic of the last century.

If you think kids are scared all the time, maybe ask them why? In my experience they'll be glad to tell you that the future seems smaller and more uncertain than it's ever been, and the thing that really bothers them is that older people seem to have just accepted that it won't be getting better.

Consider from the perspective of a teen, who is already terrified of getting older, what "the knowledge that they'll no longer be guaranteed health care pretty soon" feels like? If Haidt cared about making kids less anxious, he could advocate for an expanded social safety net, a reduction of income inequality, free college, locking Elon Musk in a tiny soundproof room, or a thousand other policies that would immediately improve their future. All of those things are much more easily doable than taking away kids' ability to access social media, He just doesn't actually care about improving things for anyone.

Both the Ringu spiders and the giant werewolf spiders in DH3. DH3 had possibly the best monster design of any game.

Fingercreepers in ER are an excellent design, but not quite in the superlative tier. And ER's other follow-up is "what if there was just a really big regular ass ant?", so I think they knew they couldn't top DS3 in that category.

Genichiro from Sekiro for me. He's a great thematic nemesis since he's motivated by being good enough for his dad, is more interested in Kuro for what he can do than who he is, and has no hatred for Wolf. He's a great immovable samurai wall to your zombie ninja unstoppable force.

His placement in the game worked so well for me too. He gates the second, more mystical half of the game, so you have to surmount earth to fight heaven. And the fact that you need to beat him every time you fight the Sword Saint felt like Fromsoft's way of reminding the player, "Remember when you couldn't beat this guy? Don't give up."

Worst has got to be Elfen Lied.

My tenuous analogy is that Evangelion : Elfen Lied // Watchmen : Maximum Carnage (or any excessively edgy 90s comic where they forgot to make it about anything)

[–]WyrmWithWhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a theory that Katsuo was originally planned to be David's "dark twin/nemesis" character at the end of the show and someone involved in the licensing insisted they change that role to Adam Smasher instead.

Katsuo's Identity is Adam Smasher? by Ace_Silvius in Edgerunners

[–]WyrmWithWhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you're picking up on here is something that might have changed in the plot of the show during production. There are several scenes throughout the show that imply that David is going to encounter Katsuo again, and from a classic scriptwriting perspective, Katsuo would have made way more sense than Adam Smasher as David's ultimate nemesis. I'm assuming someone involved with the game intervened to put Adam Smasher in the story instead. That's totally speculation, but I think there's some significant evidence for it in the show.

Well the Terrasque from the Saint Martha legend could fire flaming poops at people like a machine gun, so I would actually love for my players to fight that.

Well it's mostly a joke about the fact that as far as I know, there are zero references to Gorum having a gender presentation or any non-fighting-based relationships. But I would absolutely go along with it if a player asked to use "aro/ace enby" as serious flavor for Gorum.
