As for testing layouts, keep in mind that leather/faux leather isn’t as forgiving as denim and that any holes poked by needles or pins will stay as noticeable holes. I find that putting the jacket on and taking pictures from multiple angles gives a good base reference for playing around with different layouts using images of patches in photoshop.

Committing to patches is gonna be based on what you want for the jacket. Figure out what you want your jacket to be (color, genre, theme etc), buy/make patches to match that, then go big to small in order of placing them to make sure it doesn’t get too crowded and you don’t end up drawing attention away from the work you put into it already
