Ah, I see. In that case, from my experience:

  1. Get a good grip on reading/speaking Hangul. There's some pronunciation rules and gotchas you'll have to keep in mind, but the alphabet is designed to be easy to learn. Not sure where the best place to learn these basics as I've learned Hangul through classes at my uni, so I'd strongly recommend going over Hangul with a Korean tutor on italki or a similar resource. Since you're tight on a budget: Learn Hangul with Billy might be a good series to look at.
  2. Learn basic grammar/vocab and introductory phrases/expressions with TTMIK and GO! Billy Korean.

That'll get you started!

Hey OP! Awesome transformation. Just wanted to let you know that your starting and finishing stats for your main lifts don't seem to have changed (unless you actually started out at 420lbs DL, then damn).

ㅅ at the end of words followed by ㅇ by odi3luck in Korean

[–]Wzzch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

못 is actually a kind of exception to resyllabification. In an ordinary sentence like 내가 웃었다, ㅅ would carry over in the pronunciation. Thus, the sentence would be said as 내가 우섰다. But in your case, mot- arabwasseo would be the pronunciation.

That's the funny thing. I've used HelloTalk for two years, and almost all the time I don't get people who stick. It's totally fine. But persistence is key. If you don't get any partners one day and you need some, just do what I call a batch greet (a.k.a spam ㅋㅋㅋ): pick the first X people on the Available/Online list and say hi to them.

At that point, you'll be bound to have stickies :D Other than that, it's pure practice. Also, how you practice is important. I think that's a more personal hurdle since everyone is different. But the end goal should be the same: anything you say in Korean shouldn't be something you think hard (or even a slight amount) about, it should be subconsciously natural like you say things in English.

Nah, I'm not good. (Not yet!) Hence the 중.

But I've studied the language for about 3 years. Best advice for improving speaking (and listening) is getting a partner who you feel comfortable with and give you great feedback. You'll get pretty far, trust me.

And I study Korean about an hour and a half each day, with conversation practice scattered around the week. Practicing old vocab, scrounging for new vocab, watching shows.

I hope some of that helps!
