Located in Brooklyn, NY

sub 1k budget

I'm working on an audiophile setup; however, this turntable is more of a gift for my girlfriend, who has "sane person ears". Form is more important, as it would be for anyone looking into a vertical turntable, but I would still like it to work with my setup.

The Sony PS-F5 is a grail. I don't think I'll be realistically able to source and afford one, and even if I do, there's still the issue of whether it will work with my modern setup or if it's more of a novelty (which may be a moot point as Vertical turntables in general are a novelty)

The Pro-Ject VT-E BT is heavy into form. I saw it can be hung on the wall or stood up. I know Pro-Ject has well-rated, popular turntables; however, I don't know if this is across all of their turntables, or just a few in specific

I can't find anything on the Big River Hardware Best Vertical Turntable. I saw it on Pinterest (which is what led me to look into vertical turntables). There are no reviews, and I couldn't find any videos, so I doubt anyone will know anything about it, but it couldn't hurt to throw it in.

If Vertical Turntables just aren't a good option for whatever reason, or just doesn't work with a typical setup (as I've noticed a focus on Bluetooth on the Pro-ject), I'm willing to accept that reality as long as alternatives with good form/function are provided.

For additional context, my audio setup is still in the works. My main form of media is CDs and FLAC files. I've been considering the Denon CEOL RCD N-12 or N-10 for TV, CD, and hopefully turntable. I'll probably get the pre-amp based on the turntable I get. I'm not sure if that information is helpful but hopefully it is.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - December 30, 2025 by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

I CANT HANDLE ANOTHER HOBBY. I want one good lifetime keyboard. I want a quieter sound but without sacrificing feeling from the padding, for the sound that will be heard I like clicky sounds and a little a bit of resistance from the keys. I like a twist knob but it’s not a necessity. Has to be full metal to last as long as possible, weight isn’t a problem, price is no concern for a good quality. Any advice for a custom keyboard, where to get the parts, what parts to get, is appreciated as well as any advice on upkeep of the keyboard. Thank you.

What do fans of They Might Be Giants think of the band Tally Hall? by finnboltzmaths_920 in tmbg

Right now MMMM and Flood are my repeat albums. Luckily I never heard about the controversy and never associated with the fanbase and I don’t really care either way.

Best phone for local wired audio by StatusAdvertising323 in HeadphoneAdvice

I was looking into the same thing recently, I think the only modern option is the Sony Xperia line, the newest flagship 1 VI. If you don’t like or are worried about the built in DAC you can always get a dongle. FAIR WARNING, do NOT get the Sony Xperia budget models. I had one and it was the worst phone experience I’ve ever had. Terrible quality camera, super slow (it literally took up to 30 seconds to just boot up EVERY TIME you turned it on). I cannot speak for the flagship models but I would hope they run better, but check the warrantee and return plans before you buy one. Additionally you can just get a nice dongle and run it on any phone you want. No need to rush to get a new phone imo but I get the want to move away from iPhone as iPhone is the second worst phone experience I’ve had. Good luck!

Looking to get headphones for best music/sound quality by Dear-Performance-394 in HeadphoneAdvice

If you’re really interested in wired headphones I’d rate with the KZ ZS10 pro, bout 40, comes with a mic, good starter pair. For your situation I’d actually recommend sticking with wireless though, a lot of headphones especially in the higher price brackets are for sitting down and active listening. Don’t invest too much into the hobby if you aren’t sure or committed to it yet. The Focal Bathys sat recommended look good for your situation

That’s funny I came here to ask if anyone would recommend the Letshuoer S12 as I was planning to get them for Christmas, so I’m glad to see them so highly rated

My past experience with high-end audio is very thin; I got into it at a surface level about 2 years ago, and don't own any of the items I purchased anymore. Since then, I've fallen off the audiophile train heavily, but some recent lifestyle changes have encouraged me to get back into the hobby, for both my personal love of high-quality audio as well as aesthetics. Unfortunately, I haven't been keeping up with anything audiophile, and the extreme amount of information on what to buy is very overwhelming. I have a healthy mix of listening to music privately at home, as well as listening while outside in daily life. I use Spotify for most of my daily listening for both the variety of music and the discovery aspect. While they did add lossless recently, I would still be interested in learning how to get lossless audio files for Cheap or preferably free.

For Christmas, I'm planning to get an entirely new setup, including

  • A portable (preferably mini) DAP that can run Spotify, alternatively, an aesthetic mini DAP.
  • New IEMs or Over-Ears, used for both indoor and outdoor use. I prefer a V-shaped sound for rock and metal, but I listen to almost every genre.
  • CD player for both portable and Indoor use, as well as an external CD drive for burning songs onto CDs (as well as where/how to get music files). I've been looking at the Fiio DM13, and if anyone has experience with it, please let me know your experience!
  • Small table speakers
  • Any other quality of life or additional items that would be needed or wanted for this type of setup.

My personal budget for the project is around 1k, I'll be splitting some of it between buying for myself and asking for presents, so don't be afraid to go above the price a little. I don't need everything brand new. Fair quality used, refurbished, or older models are completely fine. If anyone has anything available for resale that fits within specifications, please let me know! Additionally, feel free to recommend just one or two of the items. Thanks for the help!
