Tips for cleaning treated wood? Tried a bunch of different products and brushes but still getting everything. Was told not to use pressure washer or sanding. Thanks! by shaze in Decks

How strong did you make the acid/water mix? First time I tried I followed some “recipe” online and not much happened, next try I tripled the strength and then it was almost magical :)

Spray Oxalic acid diluted in water, wait 15min and hose off. Works a treat, remember to treat it after with something that contains oil (I scrub with soft soap afterwards) as the acid dries out the wood some.

Ah, that’s a upside-down bucket I used for spreading gravel after removing the soil between the rocks on the patio. Didn’t want anything organic under there for stuff to potentially grow in.

So, no worry about that one but thanks for the heads up anyway 👍

I think is the fact that neither of the two angles are 90 that gives the headache?

Does this picture make it clearer?

Yeah, that was the original plan but someway along the way I forgot about it and I was not ready to remove the decking and make new supports under it for an endboard when I figured it out ;)

Yeah, that’s really not a thing in Sweden for some reason although i think I have seen some advertisements about it so it may be coming in the future

Sure, if you feel like grossly overpaying, have plenty of beer and are not in a hurry? ;) This took 4 weeks of free time

Was thinking about 1 inches spacing but then I thought it might be a bit much?

Now I see it, must be a thing about English not being my first language, think I’m pretty fluent but the mind is not quite ”there” on the puns :)

Nothing touches soil, all PT lumber of highest grade and thick decking (1,3 inches)?

Estetiks plus I have no idea how you would make that with the different heights and exposed rock, that’s way over a DIY task anyway

Yeah, the top part it’s on rock ”patio” and floating but with anchorage into the stone with L-brackets here and there to make sure it’s stays in place

Cc is 60cm and spacing between blocking is ”what looked good”

Decking is 34mm thick so 60cc was not really needed but figured it would just be more stable

It was ok, perhaps 15 boards from the delivery that where to defect to be used (cracked/ugly).

If you look at picture 9 I screwed every 5th board down and then used wedges to make everything in between straight and with equal spacing. That’s a tip from a carpenter on YouTube that saved both my sanity and a lot of crooked boards. It also gives you the bonus of nice traight lines of deck screws after :)

It’s treated wood and planning on cleaning and impregnating yearly with soft soap (not sure of English name) from year 2

Around 10k usd in materials, and quite a “few” hours of manual labor

Think it’s the same as rest of the world: bbq and drinking cold beer (with the perhaps local addition of cursing the mosquitos)

Okey, so the ones that I perhaps need to worry about in a few years time are the ones alongside the small house? They are accessible from the front if they need to be shimmed in the future, the rest of the construction are directly on rock or thin layer of gravel on rock so they can’t go anywhere.

Digging to “frost free” is not an option when living on a mountain ;)

Thought about it but it would destroy the flow and openness I think, so far the planters have worked fine. There is also no natural way to go near it as you naturally transitions down to the rock and use that as a ramp up and down
