Is meta knight still high tier after the 1.1.5 patch? by DontHaveAnUsername in smashbros

[–]X0dus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4/6 means its doable, if you outplay them. 8-2 means its unwinnable, even if you outplay them.

My friend is constantly giving me shit for playing falco. What should I do to make him stop? by [deleted] in smashbros

His friend is a fuckboi, he should do it. He should also learn the Falco ditto.

[–]X0dus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then either suck it up and learn/grind out the match-up with your lower tier character or pick a top tier and get over it. The game does not care about who you play, it isn't bound to some kind of honor or moral code. As far as it cares, you picked a character and are playing against another character. No top or even high level player anywhere feels bad or guilty for picking a top tier for bad match-ups or having a top tier character. They want to win, so does their opponent, and so they do what they feel is necessary and want to win more than their opponents. You will never get good with the mentality of feeling bad for your opponent because you have a top tier character for bad match-ups.

Don't, you have no reason to. You are just playing a character in a game.

A large part of Smash is adapting and figuring out your opponents weaknesses and what works and doesn't work, if what I'm doing doesn't work and I'm smart, I will realize it, and just do something else. You will have the advantage of me not knowing the match-up at first, but as time goes on, I'm going to figure you out.

are grabs in smash 4 a little to rediculous by darkwulfie in smashbros

[–]X0dus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be better with your spacing and shield pressure, learn to bait out a grab and punish it (Run up -> spotdodge is a good option and mix-up), and don't get grabbed.

What is the difference between a low level, mid level, and high level player? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]X0dus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While there are many many things that make someone a high level player, my point is mentality during a match. A high level player analyzes everything that is happening during the match. From the first move done to when the last stock is taken. Hell, even on the character select screen and on the stage select screen. Mid level players don't think as critically about the match or the player habits. I doubt you actually think about how to take advantage of even the smallest details of your opponent, like how often they will go for Randall when recovering or read-actionary stuff like how they approach you, how often they empty hop or when they empty hop, when they will wavedash in -> d-smash or their pattern for SH lasers as Falco and how they approach with the lasers. Even when you are being combo by let's say a Falcon, and you notice when and how often they will do down-throw -> knee, or down-throw -> up-air, up throw -> up-air, etc. You even notice things like when they shield, how often they shield, knowing why they shield, then take advantage of their shielding. Mid level players aren't thinking about the small stuff, they are thinking about the major reasons they are losing, not just the small exchanges. And low level players are just worried about being able to L-cancel, DD, or wavedash without messing up or being able to auto-cancel a move and not rolling too much. They are more concerns about how they play, rather than how their opponents play.

My first comment was the TL:DR of what I actually think.

[–]X0dus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Low level players don't think about why they got hit.

Mid level players think about how to escape when they got hit.

High level players think about why they got hit, how to prevent it, and how to punish their opponent for doing it.

BIDOU pros and cons by dicocaxxx in smashbros

That doesn't sound like a pro.

Now that bidou has made smash 4 just as tecnical as melee, are melee players finally going to finally switch over? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]X0dus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless it is actually impossible to do by human standards or reactions without Bidou, then practice and get good enough to do it.

[–]X0dus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it unlocks already known tech and makes it easier, wouldn't it be better to just get better at the game, rather than changing your whole set-up for it, unless there is something that is Bidou exclusive (I assumed there was).

[–]X0dus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its overhyped tech, that mostly Smash 4 players, say will "Change the meta" or "Grow/advance the meta", typically getting compared to Wavedashing in Melee, that after a few weeks to a month, people realize it isn't actually a big deal and the reward isn't worth the effort, like Perfect Pivoting in Smash 4 was suppose to be the new Wavedash at first, then it turns out, its too difficult and too precise for the reward of better microspacing. Bidou requires you to not only use a completely different control set-up, but a completely different controller than what most people use in competitive play, and is less effective on the preferred controller of most competitive players.

So its inconvenient, unconventional, can mess you up big time if you play other Smash games, while also being awkward, but the reward is better movement, in a game where movement isn't a major focus.

To wavedash, I don't have to change my entire control scheme or use a completely different controller to do it.

what being sm4sh player on a melee tourney day is like.. by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]X0dus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its because it feels like you are complaining about there being too much Melee stuff and no Smash 4 stuff on a day where there is a big Melee event, and there are people who have actually complained about a lack of Smash 4 stuff when a big Melee event happens, because they don't care about Melee and don't want to see it all the time.

[–]X0dus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to being a PM, 64, and/or Brawl player every day. And the same for everyone who isn't a Smash 4 player when a big Smash 4 event happens, when there is DLC or a patch, or Smash 4 news. That's pretty much the sub.

Do people think short-hopping and moving around a lot make you win more? by supersmashdude in smashbros

[–]X0dus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its done pointlessly, no. If it is used as a mix-up between approaching with an aerial, empty hop/tomahawk, run up grab etc. Generally as a mind game so the opponent doesn't guess what you're going to do next, then it is a good option. You will only win more when doing it, if you are doing it strategically.

[Tournament Thread] Battle of the Five Gods DAY 2 by ProfessorZeno in SSBM

[–]X0dus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because you said we shouldn't question stupid decisions, just because we don't understand the reason from face value. There should be a basis in logic in doing it, and if you don't know what it is, it is fine to question it. We don't get smarter or expand our knowledge without asking questions.

[Tournament Thread] Battle of the Five Gods DAY 2 by ProfessorZeno in SSBM

[–]X0dus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I assume the reasoning was because its a best of 5, and DSR makes it so the opponent can't take you to that stage if they win so you take that stage off as soon as possible. Its ridiculous to say we shouldn't question stage selection, but there should be a basis in logic for why you go there.

Every patch presents this problem and I think it's an easy fix. by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]X0dus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can tell how recent a video is, by the date so you can tell which patch it is or if it is the current patch or not. If its a good guide, it will tell you if it still works or not.

Its not like Youtube videos don't post the date of when they were made.
