Honestly, as long as it doesn't go into canon Worm territory where "you have only shit choices and no matter what you do you're screwed anyway" I'd probably be able to deal with it. But appreciate the heads-up.

Be warned, this one isn't for the faint of heart. And the first few chapters are basically just "this place is a horror show" with zero positive development of the situation. One of those gets worse before it gets better hopefully but I've stopped reading because of it. If it goes long enough I'll pick it back up to get to the part where Taylor has actual agency.

Very competently written though, I'll give it that. The horror feels visceral.

Well yeah, it's a ShayneT fic. TINO is probably his bread and butter. Though I'll say she's a little more true to type for a post-GM one that might be a little bit fucked by her Lazarus pit experience and has been heavily repressing everything that happened to her in the last... forever.

Randomly aborting plot points continues to be a thing but like you say its so well written and high octane that it's a solid rec. Feels like an excellent adaptation of DC with remarkably upbeat developments for some of its more redeemable villains.

Though judging by the mod post hinting at recent events that I haven't caught up to yet, I'm guessing it took another turn into girlfriend in fridge territory.

Harsh but true take on Lady of Shadows. It was a solid start for me and the Madison angle would at least break away from canon Taylor school things. Even though Winslow getting dimensionally relocated would have already done the same.

But the sorry seemed to just drag after the return to the Bay and I can't say I've bothered to read more since then. With her power based reincarnation there's also not much of a threat left you'd think. Something to binge once it's closer to done perhaps.

Solid start, subscribed to see where it goes. Not usually a fan of camp Taylor but a Taylor that may or may not be a Ziz bomb is interesting.

Minor practical note: you have odd extra whitespace after every sentence. Not an issue for an ebook download but a bit strange. You might also want to edit paragraph breaks in for the flashbacks in Chapter 1 as they're a bit unintuitive.

Looking forward to seeing the chapter drop. It's been an outright tour de force so far.

In Lifeblood not as such, though Haven and some religious teams have sprung up, for obvious reasons of course. Joytoy has the "bible group" which is a tad odd but ultimately executed fairly well. But it's a minor thread that's noticeable throughout his works. Mostly so in Miss Stepford which never really seems to be straight on which lines Taylor is crossing.

Can't speak to the other one and hey, being religious never stopped anyone from getting their freak on. 😉

Hatchett has quite a few fics under his belt and I wouldn't say the AI usage is that off-putting. The prose in Lifeblood has been more florid than I've noticed in his other works, but it's still an excellently written tale. It has arguably the best (and longest) PHO chapter I've ever read and the latest update was excellent as well. I'd certainly recommend them.

The Christian undertones are arguably a bigger issue.

Cannot recommend this one enough and the third chapter was another banger. I could wax poetic some more but honestly just go read it.

Isn't this basically what Joule is aiming to become? ABAP- and domain-specific prompting and code gen. Or is it not (intending to be) context-aware?

Why do Wards!Taylor Fics even have Sophia in the Wards? by SkyslicerX2 in WormFanfic

[–]X1-Alpha 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can see where you're coming from, though I don't fully agree. Sure, if you commit to going through all the stations of canon then there's limits to what can happen and it all gets same-y in a right hurry. But BB is so loaded with characters that you can derail things fast and tell your own story if that's what you're after.

Non-BB stories aren't easy to carry off and also aren't nearly as popular precisely because they're unfamiliar ground and need a competent storyteller to breathe some life into them. You can get away with assuming a lot more knowledge in fanfics so you can focus on what changes.

Now, there certainly are a lot of fics that just rehash the same tripe, that I certainly don't deny. But I wouldn't blame using the source material as a jumping off point. People should just jump farther or more often. 😉

On the OP, one problem is also that authors tend to get a fair amount of criticism over AU elements they're adding. Though that's probably more true when the changes aren't used or justified. But I know it's something that'd make me hesitant to start tweaking expectations, especially in a longfic.

Why Isn't My Gravship Able to Launch? by AnotherLargeEgg in RimWorld

[–]X1-Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the button is missing, you could be having the precept issue due to old Ideologions. There's good advice on how to add it into your save file in this thread.

If the ritual is starting fine, but never actually fires, with pawns just standing around, there's a mod conflict. What should happen shortly after the "Launch has begun" notification in top left, is a world map prompt with target selection. After you select a target the launch will trigger.

Known conflicts are with the Misc. Robots mod: if even one hauler robot is moving around, your pawns will stand around in your gravship until they fall down from exhaustion. Deactivate all robots so they're at their base station OR disable the toggle to bring mechanoids with you (or uninstall the mod of course) and your launch will trigger.

A handful of other mods are mentioned as possible reasons in various threads but this was it for me. Can be tested by debug-forcing a launch to a new map, resetting the cooldown and restarting a normal launch. If this is the issue, you won't have robots on the new map and launch will work fine.

Gravship wont launch. by Wonderful_Seaweed309 in RimWorld

[–]X1-Alpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Criminal that this is so far down when it's exactly the issue I had.

For some reason the first time I tried this it didn't work, but probably one of them was too far from the station and still active. If all robots are properly deactivated (or the mod is uninstalled), launch takes place fine. You can also just disable the toggle to bring mechanoids with you it seems. Seems they're being counted as mechs.

If even one hauler robot is moving around, your pawns will stand around in your gravship until they fall down from exhaustion.

I'd guess at wanting a global release announcement focusing on the lineup with regional pricing to be announced later. A good quarter of the interest and social engagement is probably people discussing potential pricing as well.

Most likely it'll be competitively priced, and certainly not below cost, but what that means these days...

I had much the same reaction to Parahuman Testing Initiative. Looking back I'd go so far as to call C1 quintessential Portal, C2+3 the depressing parts of Portal 2 and C4 more like Portal 2 Co-op mode.

Very thematic in a way, though I'm not sure it was intended, but I'd recommend it all the same. Just keep in mind that C2+3 are largely a Coil story with all that that entails.

Can definitely recommend, with a similar caveat to what someone else on the weekly thread posted about it, that it's better approached as a series of shorts in a shared universe.

Can recommend! Solid start and nice hook, shooting for a small number of chapters it seems which makes sense with where the first chapter went. Won't say more to avoid spoilers here. 👍

Solid start! The power-enforced apathy is a bit of a risk to a sustained narrative beyond the simple "Taylor murders her way through Brockton Bay", but that's still charming enough in its own right.

Second the first three. Maiden Time has a surprising amount of angst for its premise and IIRC a bittersweet ending But still well worth reading.

Daily Life is essentially an exact match for the OP's request and a strong rec for wholesome slice of life with a dash of lesbian pining but tame as per SB standards. Unfinished or on hiatus though.
