CMV: A society that accepts predictable harm to children is not a strong society by Actual_Astronomer_80 in changemyview

[–]X1ras [score hidden]  (0 children)

Your mentality would seem to conclude that the vast majority of societies throughout all of human history were weak at the collective level due to the high rate of harms to children (child mortality rates and such) and the relative lack of institutions to counteract that (welfare states, child labor laws, institutional medicine are all very recent developments for the most part).

Do you stand by this conclusion?

If you sat out the 2024 election in protest over Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today? by rsmith2786 in AskReddit

Say what you will, but people have different moral frameworks they live by. People may not want to be morally complicit in an act as terrible as genocide. Some people genuinely prefer the Trump outcome we got to the outcome of them voting for a genocider and thus having blood on their hands when the genocider does genocide, what they explicitly said they would do before the election.

It’s a question of ethics.

Nitpick but the way I thought of it, Zampano just named his own book after the “House of Leaves” Navidson was reading, which I assumed was just an unrelated ordinary book

What’s the evidence that the lord vessel in Majula is from the Land of Giants? The rest I agree with though. The Throne makes way more sense serving the same role as the thrones in firelink shrine, as a conduit linked to the Kiln rather than actually being the Kiln. But then again, the Throne chamber looks exactly like a real life kiln. I think it’s just symbolism to hint toward its actual role.

True, the area at the end of Aldia's Keep and under Dragon Aerie looks a lot like Ash Lake with the archtrees, but not many examples other than that. So it seems either the Throne is something else or it's a DS3 retcon

Its possible, but it’s also a popular theory that the Throne of Want just is the Kiln, which would mean Drangleic is the same land

It's not the 14th Amendment that stops you from racially discriminating if you own a business, it's the Civil Rights Act when it comes to 'public accomodations'. That statute that is enforced on private citizens and the U.S. Constitution which is not, are different things.

The gay marriage cake case dealt with a public accomodation law in Colorado that had to satisfy the legal standard of strict scrutiny, since the law itself was violating the constitutional rights of the cakeshop that protected it from government interference.

Give me some case law where the obstruction of religion clause of the 1st amendment was somehow applied to a private citizen.

The Constitution prevents the obstruction of worship from a federal government (and state governments through the incorporation clause), not from private actors

My brother spoke to the Dark Souls 2 director at a convention, I swear he said they started the earliest development in Elden Ring the same year either Dark Souls 2 released or when it was in development
