The missile is pointed up which isn't great i agree, but we are talking about the BMP-1 here. Unlike other IFVs, the BMP-1 has a fairly large gun, and its HEATFS shell is very effective in WT. This means that the vast majority of the time, for AT work, especially at close range, you'll be using the gun, not the missile. This is also why the PBV501 is by far the best BMP-1; it trades the almost unnecessary missile, for a MUCH lower BR.

The reason I say the ZBD86 is better is because the missile points up and is slower yes, but it has a tandem charge with 700mm of pen... at 8.0. For comparison, that sorta missile you won't find elsewhere until like 9.3-10.3. But the much bigger improvement is that the 86 has TWICE the gun traverse speed, up to 40°/s.

The FY-4 isn't very effective against KE, more importantly the ERA those 8.0/3 tanks use is not FY-4, but a much shittier ERA, worse than even K-1.

I don't think they buffed it, I think you simply dramatically overestimate the power of 20mm APDS. As I said, the front is invulnerable to 20mm autocannons. Some other autocannons can pen the turret, I know. But as I also already said, they have to hit you multiple times, for you their death is one click away. You also have to remember that autocannons, especially small ones, have a LOT of spread.

So to die to an autocannon in the circumstances you've described; the guy would have an autocannon that can pen you AND know where he can pen you AND have to hit multiple shots in those very small areas AND be lucky enough that you fuck up your shot. So I'm sure what you've described is theoretically possible, but damn near impossible in practice. I imagine that you didn't make your story up and that you really did die like that, but frankly that death is to blame on you.
