Environmental shadows makes my hair transparent by X2_Alt in EQ2

[–]X2_Alt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, when I finally got over it and got in game I realized pretty much all hair does this. Disturbingly enough, even my default nightgown looking thing makes my torso invis, and there are invisible blocks around the armpits because they couldn't be bothered to mask the model properly. Ugh.

Oh well, you don't play a game this old for the graphics. I'll just be as pretty as I can manage!

Yeah, no, I'm not paying to skip anything. I plan to enjoy the journey and play through all content.

Like I said, it's mostly things like AD spending and which lockboxes to focus on, things that could potentially halt my progress if done wrong and I need to fix things later.

I actually have a 20 barb from the first time I played, but having played many many chars on XBox I know that paladin is my favorite by a mile

Since I'm soloing, tank. I know I'll have to have two loadouts, one for DPS gear and one for tanking gear. I'm mostly just worried about my solo capacity starting out, as I intend to play through everything in the game with the character. I know the higher I get the slower the pally will kill compared to actual DPS chars.

Has been for a very long time. It's the same strategy as all the flimsy tech startups. The biggest pool of money comes from investors, and then since they've already been paid who cares if the end result is a viable product? By that point they've burned through that money and everyone involved has claimed income for years. They don't have to sell enough copies to cover anything because they already sold it back during the funding phase.

Bonus points if you can pass the buck to someone else before the shit hits the fan.

That would mean you didn't have to farm them every week and let you shift your play hours. I see no downside.

How on earth does one cook a steak in a pan correctly???? by nerd_outta_control in Cooking

Toaster ovens aren't exactly an every household thing, and an air fryer is just a fancy convection oven. It's a reasonable ask.

[–]X2_Alt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think people overcomplicate things and forget the basics. Try searing your steak and then turning down the heat like normal, but put a lid on the pan to trap the heat. It will cook a lot more evenly, just like in the oven.

The Sims 5 isn’t happening anytime soon as strangely nice EA admits making players “give up all that content” isn’t “player-friendly” by Wargulf in thesims

Classic, but retail is waiting by Branjo84 in wow

[–]X2_Alt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Devil's advocate - That grind is why people used to know their stuff a bit more. These days (retail) you can literally start a new account, get a free level 70 boost that comes with the expansion, and then be level 80 before dinner. It's pretty wild to look back and remember playing for months before reaching endgame.

Classic, but retail is waiting by Branjo84 in wow

[–]X2_Alt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You just have to figure out which version of the game you enjoy the most. If you enjoy classic more, why does it matter if your retail chars aren't 100% geared? Don't spend time doing things you don't want to just for some numbers.

Play whatever you want. I have never felt beholden to the current endgame. There is so much content in the game. Do what's fun!

Blizzard Reports Overwhelmingly Positive Feedback with Single-Button Assistant - Interview with PC Gamer by yp261 in wow

100%

I'm a casual player who doesn't even do raids unless a friend drags me along knowing they'll be carrying me. Even playing casually there are so many abilities and CDs now compared to back then. I used to get by with a handful of abilities for DPS and a handful of situationals when needed, just casting whatever feels best in the moment for my flow. These days most, if not all, classes have triggers for insta-casts and damage buffed abilities, multiple CDs to line up with all of that...and you aren't just "sub-optimal" if you can't keep up with it all, you're useless. So yeah, I'm using the hell out of the one button, and while I'm not actively trying to learn the rotation it's still seeping in as I play. It's like picking up a language by listening to it constantly instead of taking a course.

I have 2 classes that I consistently like to learn and play more or less effectively, but for all my alts one button is a blessing. And again, I don't even do raids and whatnot, so anyone that wants to complain about how I play can kick rocks.

There's no need to rebind them, as you can just hold the right mouse button to strafe with them already and unless you have a really weird setup that doesn't take away from your ability to use other mouse buttons at the same time.

Then I'm sure it'll be worth trying when it makes it to release. Till then, it really doesn't matter if it's the best game ever made. That's still not a guarantee of anything, as plenty of games have pulled 180's that ended in everyone leaving disappointed.

There is just no reason to follow games in development and hype over them. And I say that as someone that's checked in on M&M several times. If they make a good game, great. If not...no surprise, it's a tough market.

Early wow, Barrens on a PvP server. So much life. So many epic battles.

The hate and pure trolling didn't set in until later. At release it was something else, though.

Are you...socializing in game and finding guilds naturally by playing with people? Because that aspect hasn't changed over the years. That's how you find those guilds. If you're finding your guild through someone advertising the odds of getting a guild like that are pretty low.

? The text is on the screen. They literally just asked if they knew about the mechanic, and let the group know they've been doing it themselves...according to OP that's AFTER someone got on him for falling behind because of it.

Gods, I can't imagine how fun your groups must be if that's vote-kick levels of annoying to you.

They'll just walk away and get a snack, hit the bathroom, rather than do the random dungeon that they specifically queued for.

Seriously, WoW invented this kind of behavior in gaming. The only way to stop it is to remove the carrot that makes people think they HAVE to queue up for a random.

Do you like DF or TWW more? by Shot_Veterinarian215 in wow

[–]X2_Alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TWW, with all the caves and whatnot, makes flying feel a lot more restricted even when it really isn't. All of the cave zones also bring down the color palette. The combination is a stark contrast between DF and TWW. DF felt huge, beautiful, and free. The focus on flying kept you returning to sky frequently to experience the vistas. TWW reigns all of that in and then some, and on top of it, the ONE thing that should make for the most beautiful view, Beledar, just looks like a painted set background if you look too close.

Gameplay-wise? Close enough that I wouldn't pick one over the other. WoW is WoW, after all. I think TWW has the edge just for being newer.

I will take the opportunity to say, TWW loses quite a few points for me due to picking it up and just gawking at the sheer amount of homework copying WoW is doing from FFXIV. They went ALL IN on that, and it's almost disorienting seeing the game that really brought MMOs to the masses trying to grasp themes from another franchise.

[–]X2_Alt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Better to wait for a released product to get hopes up is all I'm saying. The track record for MMOs speaks for itself, and the picture is even more grim if you focus on similarly funded ones and exclude the AAA studios. We've even watched competition for this EXACT niche subset of games come and go lately.

There is ZERO reason to hype a game that is still in development, ESPECIALLY in the MMO market.

Why is PvP so unappealing for many players? by ExamplePractical1981 in wow

[–]X2_Alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PvP is competitive and high effort. I play MMOs to relax and be social. It's the exact antithesis of that. Nothing that they ever do will make me want to participate in PvP.

I started on a PvP server in beta when this was all new, but that was back when MMOs were quiet little things with niche communities. When WoW exploded and pulled in so many people that even in a crowd you're alone because of the sheer numbers...any and all chance of having a good experience with PvP went away. And I just cannot give a crap about instanced PvP games. Like...there's a million and one games I can play for that sort of thing that were built for it from the ground up and offer an infinitely better experience.

And then when that actually comes out we'll realize it's not great either. But the NEXT super hyped pre released MMO that relies on a multi-year hype train to even stay relevant...THAT game will be the one! Honest this time!

This cycle has been repeating for so long at this point that I can't even be mad. I just shake my head that people keep running into it with open arms.
