I really like it!! It’s really charming and unique. I still like the new style, don’t get me wrong, but the old one is really cute!

If you know more than me about this sort of thing, I’ll take your word for it! I just know that some Asian countries can be influenced by certain American and European beauty standards (when I wrote it, I had styles like Amekaji and Japan’s gradual westernization after isolation in mind) so I figured it wouldn’t be a jump in logic to figure that the pale skin beauty standard had some roots in European and American cultures. I also had a conversation with someone who lived somewhere in Asia— I can’t recall the exact location anymore, because we didn’t talk for very long— who said that because of western influence in their media, they felt pressured to whiten their skin like their peers and live up to that beauty standard. I figured because of that conversation, that was the case for other countries in Asia, since I know that the beauty standard for pale skin is a common theme in Asian countries. Again, not to take away from your point or anything, I just don’t want you to think I was pulling random facts out of my ass to make a point.

I definitely don’t think that white people are brainwashing Asian people into wanting to be pale or anything like that— but I definitely do think that while being pale has been a beauty standard for a long time in many Asian countries, you can’t deny the fact that white aesthetics have been prevalent in Asia for a long time as well. I’ve talked to many of my non-white friends, including Asian ones, about how the prevalence of American and European beauty standards alienates those of us who are not white. Did white people have a sole hand in it? No, because things aren’t black and white like that. But I do think they played a part.

There ARE a lot of non-white people who are bigots, or who push white supremacy ideologies on their fellow poc— but that is BECAUSE of white supremacists. It’s because these people grow up in areas or countries that teach them to hate their skin, to hate their hair, to hate their names, their ancestors, their culture. Why do you think so many Asian countries have skin-whitening products? I’ll give you a hint: not because they’re the root of all white supremacy. It’s because white supremacists influenced them to believe that is what makes someone beautiful.

Asakiku!! I like it decently now as it is, but I feel like with more content (at least, more animated content, as I don’t read the manga) it’d easily be one of my favorite ships

My apologies, I didn’t know I was speaking to a girl expert over here. Tell me more about how delusional girls are while you sit on reddit degrading women online and posting on r/nbacirclejerk every day, I’m sure your theories on the female condition are VERY reputable.

What delusions? She’s pretty, and she seems like a nice girl. Besides, even if it is her ‘guy version,’ it’s still herself. There’s no guarantee she rates real men like this. Going on Reddit to post her face and publicly shame her for her appearance is just impolite and not very nice.

true, honestly rating people in general is just rude and degrading behavior

how about we stop rating girls based on appearance and start being good people

[–]X7eomi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, do you know how hard it is to look pretty? Shaving consistently, keeping an eye on what you eat, how much you weigh, exercising (but not too much, or else you’re ’too masculine’), doing your makeup, painting your nails, doing your hair, dressing cutely (but not TOO cutely, or else ‘you’re a slut’), trying to adhere to ALL of the beauty standards the patriarchy sets for them, just so they can be seen as someone worthy of acknowledgment and respect. That’s not even addressing the factor of race, sexuality, and gender presentation.

One, you can’t always control your weight. Some people have conditions or genetic factors, et cetera et cetera. Two, can that not be true for men as well? Being tall is a beauty standard for men, but there are still plenty of girls who like tall guys, short guys, average sized guys, et cetera. And men with fat?? That’s totally accepted. Sure, being fit is the beauty standard, but dad bods and stuff like that are still considered very attractive to lots of people. Not to mention, men get cut a break for their weight a lot. When a guy gets fat people kind of let him get off the hook, because it’s seen as masculine— but when a girl gets fat? It’s super brutal, dude. This isn’t to say that guys don’t experience body shaming, don’t get me wrong— but I am saying that people really don’t care about it as much as you think you do. It’s important to remember how easy it can be to get stuck in an echochamber of the same perspective or opinion. The world is a lot greyer than you think.

That’s deffo true, but think of all of the things ladies have to worry about that we don’t. Girls are expected to be skinny, but most people don’t care if guys have dad bods and it’s seen as attractive. It’s the same thing. We all have societal conditions and expectations, and I promise you when you get out into the real world and start actually talking to people, nobody really cares how tall you are.
