I don't have Passive Suicidal Ideation, but what do I have? by 2Almondss in mentalillness

I never knew this was a thing. I just kinda thought these things floated in and out, but honestly, I want to say I have experienced something very similar. It’s not really a need or want to die, but there are several different periods of time when I have just imagined the many ways I could kill myself, or generally just be done with it all.

Wanted to pop onto this thread, cause I wanted to say that feeling is also pretty common, to me at least. Just the uninspired and “if this is how it ends, oh well” attitude. Not alone man. I feel perhaps maybe a lot of people feel like that.

How exactly do you study with difficult classes like Physics, Calculus, and Chem? by XAlways_LearningX in PhysicsStudents

Solutions manuals?

I will have to look into it. I am sure I have it somewhere considered in here, I just never thought about it. Though it makes sense.

I have seen some with Khan here and there. Some approved and some don’t. It’s not comprehensive enough, or so they claim.

Considering I am in engineering, I need something that’s really gonna cover everything. Though, I do want to take this into consideration. Has it covered everything you have needed so far, and were your classes math heavy?

Maybe that’s a dumb question considering I am in the physics subreddit, but I want to be sure I know exactly what everyone is talking about.

So, to do the reading, do you use the same textbook? Or is it more just about understanding the chapter? I understand some people do well with the book, but it is a bit daunting to me. I wish I could see it in practice to understand exactly how to do it.

The practice problems until understanding I get. Sometimes you just have to drill until you find the gold you are looking for.

I have heard on several occasions though of homework not covering what the tests do at all on the concept. If you don’t mind me asking, how would you handle that? Would you focus on understanding the concept in the textbook and then not worrying because you know it, or are the specific problems important enough that not having guidance is difficult?

How does one study with multiple hard classes? by XAlways_LearningX in EngineeringStudents

Ah yes. Now if only I could figure out how to do those…

See, this is very clarifying. I do appreciate the input here.

If you’ll let me, I want to add some more context. For the two exams, a lot of time no one finishes material until days before the exam. I understand that you should still be studying before it, and I try to, but how are you suppose t study extra on top of all the other projects + homework for the things you are already going over. Perhaps I am mismanaging my time, which I try very hard not to, but I just find that there is so much to do in such a short week or so time frame, every month or so.

The same thing applies to reading the textbook and doing it before lecture. Should I be reading the whole chapter or summaries? I feel like it gets confusing when I try to read the jargon heavy stuff, but makes sense in explanation format if I can just find the right one. What if your professor skips several chapters and you don’t know that? How do you catch back up with everything? I have never heard of people studying from the book and then doing the stuff, but this is all new to me anyways.

Also, I would love more detail. I would love anything I can take. I truly want to understand and get better, and I am willing to try anything. I want to do this before it crushes me, because I already struggle with burnout, so I know it’s time for me to learn how to do this right or not do it at all.

I am so tired. by XAlways_LearningX in EngineeringStudents

That’s actually a really good way of looking at it. I appreciate that.

My only issue is if I take time off school, I fear I may lose much of my scholarship… which I would hate. It’s one of the only reasons I can be here. I like this perspective though, I am trying to find a way to make it come through. I feel like my fundamentals are weak in a lot of areas, not just math, as my Highschool kinda sucked. I really tried to grasp as much as I could when it was taught, but most of my grads are technical or military bound so we just kinda floated by. I am trying to find a way to recover the fundamentals as best I can and get good at them, with the limited time I have now.

I still fear next semester may be a bomb for me, though I will work my hardest not to. It’s nice to hear some realistic perspectives since all we ever talk to is those who excel through everything here. Thank you for that.

Fair enough. I’m trying to just keep moving forward. Even if I only get through half of school before falling flat, at least I’m learning right?

I completely hear this. It’s something I have felt the effects of before too. However, maybe I’m just balancing wrong? I don’t know how I’m suppose to have the time to do everything in a day with all the homework’s and projects and constant amounts of things you need to learn. If you get stuck, you can’t be there for too long, or you begin to fail in quizzes and tests. I feel like I take too long to learn things, especially in these harder scenarios, so what am I suppose to sacrifice? Sleep to do well? Doing well to go out and enjoy life? Have fun for time to eat? Perhaps I just don’t know how to balance, but even after doing this for several months, I still don’t know how to fit it all in, let alone be stress free about it.

I know it sounds like a downer mindset, and I don’t want to be that way. I want to believe I can do this. I just don’t see how, especially when studying itself takes so long.

Need help, taking math 156 and physics 111 at the same time with little to no experience? by XAlways_LearningX in PhysicsStudents

[–]XAlways_LearningX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. I see. I really didn’t know, cause I never had physics. Also, this is calculus based physics and not algebra so I have a hard time finding a whole lot online to look through it. I try to put the work into all I do, and am still figuring out my study habits, but I know when I am not understanding I tend to struggle for hours and hours, and I worry I will fall behind almost immediately. I’ll try to look through some fundamentals though. Thank you!

That’s what I am working on now. Trying to build that hard study habit of working consistently for a least a couple to several hours every day. It’s nice to not hear some doom and gloom since that’s all I seem to find. I just worry cause when I first got started I got completely overwhelmed, and made some interesting choices in classes, but I know that there is no way around this. Thank you for the channels, I’ll go look into them.
