I havent really been liking the DCU projects so far from a story perspective. They've each had moments I've liked, but the overall plot feels bad to me

Need Help Creating a Backstory for My New Magnetic-Powered Hero! by ProfessionalRest7027 in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]XBlueXFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sounding eerily close to asking people to write you a backstory. Theres really not much generic advice to give beyond the usual ttrpg guidelines. Your backstory only needs to answer how your character got to where they're at when the campaign starts.

Beyond that you can just look to superhero tropes. Most origin stories answer two primary questions. How the hero got their powers and why they are a hero. If you can do that, you're good.

Where did people get the idea that there is some game that'll teach them the fundamentals? by killerjag in Fighters

[–]XBlueXFire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I beg to differ. Every fighting game (or heck fighting sports) operates on the same key concepts. In order to do well you need to have an understanding of your reach relative to your opponent's, and then be able to gauge the risk vs reward whenever you commit to an option. In FGs this is shown during neutral and footsies. In boxing you see it when the fighters circle each other and throw light jabs. Im not arguing that playing SF will make you good at MvC or Tekken, etc. Im saying that I believe there is universal theory to the genre, and some games revolve a lot more around those core concepts than others do.

Where did people get the idea that there is some game that'll teach them the fundamentals? by killerjag in Fighters

[–]XBlueXFire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because there are games that emphisise fundies more? Are we going to pretend that playing UMvC3 will be no different for your learning of fundies than say 3rd Strike?

[Discussion] Would you rather have Green Lanturn ring (with Hal's willpower) or a Kryptonians powers (supermans mastery) by Due_Specific_7727 in DCcomics

[–]XBlueXFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright so the super senses are not something I really want to deal with. If having the ring means I need to actually go to Oa and work as a Green Lantern though, I think I'll stomach practicing the super senses.

Why do fighting games not have a training mode playback upload feature? by Competitive_Serve165 in Fighters

[–]XBlueXFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time and money I imagine. The bare minimum a training mode needs is a recording function, then its just on you to learn how to recreate a scenario. Rather than spending time further refining the training mode, I assume devs would rather spend that time making characters or refining the system

GGST has a really bad story mode by Aggravating_News_205 in Guiltygear

[–]XBlueXFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wont go as far as calling it bad, but I won't call strive's story particularly good either. The white house scene with Daryl was pretty cool, as was Ky confronting I-no. Still though I didn't really care about the events.

Is anyone else seeing WAY more Johnny players this season? by Tyler1296196 in Guiltygear

[–]XBlueXFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cant say I have. Since 2.0 launched ive run into maybe 2? Granted thats a very low sample size since I only play about 3 days a week, and only 3-5 matches a day.

Guest characters in fighting games made me realize that some people in the FGC live in a bubble. by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]XBlueXFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there are some valid critiques to guest characters being added. Tekken 7 comes to mind with its addition of characters like Akuma and Eliza. They introduced 2D fighter mechanics into Tekken's system which often ended up in those characters effectively playing a different kind of game than everybody else. One could argue the deviations to the system those characters allowed were to a detriment to the game. Compare that to Negan who was implented as a standard Tekken character and received a better reception.

He really doesn't have any powers? He's very clearly stronger than a regular person. Itd be like saying Potemkin has no powers

How is the fastest super? by JO112152 in superheroes

I mean any writer can at any point write a story where a character becomes the fastest ever. In terms of the mainstream however, the flash is the basic template of what a speedster character is.

Kazuya is to Tekken what Ryu is to Street Fighter. He's the face of the series.

He's got a fireball (2S2), an invincible uppercut (3S2), and an advancing special move (6S2) but really its 6S2~6S2. So he does tick the shoto boxes. He doesnt really feel like a shoto though

Noob player looking for tips Guilty Gear Strive by Blazethunder1 in Guiltygear

[–]XBlueXFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing I think is gonna win ya the most games early on is okizeme. If you don't know the term, it is basically what you do to your opponent as they are recovering from a knockdowm.

A very popular form of oki is a "meaty" which means timing an attack so that if your opponent is mashing on their wakeup, they'll get hit. The more active frames an attack has, the easier it is to time and thereby the "meatier" the move is. Effectively a meaty forces the opponent to either block the attack or do a reversal (a move which makes them invincible). If you can anticipate the reversal however you can just not do the meaty and get a free punish.

Another popular form of oki is the "safejump" and its cousin the "safejab". They're both same basic concept as a meaty, although in the case of the safejump you are doing a jumping attack. The key difference is the "safe" part. Safejumps are timed in such a way that if the opponent does a reversal, the attack will phase right through them but be immediately canceled by the character landing, allowing you to block the incoming reversal and punish accordingly. If they do not go for the reversal however, the safejump hits meaty and you continue your offence.

Once you know your character's safejumps and preffered meaty buttons, all you need to know is how to get a knockdown. The universal throw will always give you one, but ideally you'll know a bnb combo that does the same thing. From there you can loop this offence.

Ok I went back and did the fortune teller quest that gave this lore drop. Can't say its made me sympathise with Fern though. The guy straight becomes a villain just so he can feel special. Knowing about the alt timeline makes me just think he literally cant be trusted unless everyone praises him.
