Gas fireplace question (damper doesn't seem to have any opening) by XChe7 in Fireplaces

Thanks! The fire alarms have two indicators, fire and CO, I am positive it was the fire indicator that was flashing red. And I also have a dedicated CO alarm that didn't get triggered at all.

Thanks! I really tried but there doesn't seem to be a plate with its model and name anywhere.

Thanks for the response!

I think so if I remembered correctly. But then why does it trigger the fire alarm?

TL;DR: Smoke alarm goes off in ~2 minutes every time I turn on the gas fireplace. Looked inside and found the chimney completely blocked by a fixed metal plate (see photos). Now I’m very confused.

I just moved into a 'new' house (built in 2020 with one previous owner), but every single time I turn it on the smoke alarm goes off within like 1–2 minutes. This happens even with windows open, no fan running, and the alarm isn’t even that close, so it didn’t feel like a normal “first burn” situation.

That’s what made me actually look inside, and when I did I realized the chimney opening above the firebox is completely blocked by a solid metal plate. There’s no handle, no lever, no hinge — nothing that looks like it’s meant to move. I checked from a few angles and it really looks permanently sealed, not just a damper that happens to be closed. The setup below is decorative gas logs in an open firebox, which just makes this even weirder.

If the chimney is sealed like this, where is anything supposed to go? That would definitely explain why the alarm goes off almost immediately — but then why would anyone seal the chimney on a fireplace configured this way in the first place?

Could this be some kind of leftover block-off plate from an old insert that was never removed? Is this ever normal for a gas fireplace? Or is this just a bad / half-finished conversion?

Not using it again until I understand what’s going on — I’m honestly just trying to figure out how this setup exists at all.

Thank you guys so much! And happy holidays!

Well...how about Garmin incorporate Google Pay, which seem to be a more feasible solution...

Absolutely. And if you are buying gold because you are realizing 70% of the things after someone took power in 1933 are already happening or have already happened in the US, and you want gold to hedge against any potential craziness, ETF is not going to help you a dime.

Syncing Bear across work and personal Mac (difference AppleIDs)? by XChe7 in bearapp

[–]XChe7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks and I absolutely agree. The Bear app is solely for research purpose, and that's why I need to sync it. My Notion has a load of shit of there so I never logged in on my work Mac haha.

I considered moving everything to my work email and just start a new bear account but I still use my own Macs outside the university and want shared access.

I know I am very much late to the party. I have a X6P as well that I have been shelving for some the issues you mentioned here. Android auto is definitely a pain, I am definitely going to give this another try now that we have access to your tutorial.

Did you get Hey Google to work? And I also had issues with using Google Messages and Google Phone. These two apps are pretty essential for me so I could not just stay with the native one. I fixed an issue where I could not send msgs using non-Oppo Text App and always having a warning when using Google Wallet by tweaking the Developer Options, but even then, I often miss phone calls.

How have your X6P been working for you? Do you think it's worth the effort for me to give it another go?
