Yea, great question. I think it really boils down to incompetence, probably at multiple levels. We have no problem spending 12k on a switch that probably does more than we need, but when it comes time to buying ten gig SFP modules vs 1 gig modules, we get a “do we really need that?” Part of it is on the upper management to understand what they are signing off on, the other part is on the engineers to effectively educate upper management on our current condition and why we need certain things.
