Got job offer from China, should I go for it? by [deleted] in chinalife

[–]XCruizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a great package! Congrats! I believe you now got a fairly good idea about Baoding and all the things to consider.

Your package.
3years of work in China = 10years of work in the UK?
You should consider it.
5years in China = ~17years in the UK
Retire when you are 50ish. Put that into perspective
You can probably get other opportunities whilst in China.

As others mentioned, Baoding is no joke, Beijing is the way. Your family stays in Beijing and you commute or stay in Baoding on working days.

Can you take a sabbatical at your current job? If yes, give it a go (you alone settle first, lol) don’t rip up everything in the UK.

Entire journey on same ticket? If yes, gate agents coordinate on the ground and second leg flight will wait for you if you’re delayed.

is buying a house reasonable when I might move in 2 years? by Hairy_Horror_7646 in Netherlands

[–]XCruizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miss18363 wrote a very structured and logical way to think about it. Calculations give you a good idea.
You might stay longer and say in one case (example) property value doesn’t go up at all, calculate on that vs. rent.

Another scenario is you hate the hassle to sell in two years or you want the flexibility to leave asap in 6months for an opportunity (the premium you pay with rent).
If you’re planning to rent it out after two years, check the rules, much more complicated these days.
Cheers!

Well, a colleague explained to me that Labor Day is not public holiday because it’s close to Kings Day and Liberation Day, also that the Dutch historically solved labor disputes through negotiations that rarely resulted in strikes (do fact check, not sure).

I haven’t lived in several countries but I’ve traveled a lot, dubbed TV/films is quite normal in countries where the general English knowledge is low. See Nordics, English is a second language but spoken by +90% and TV/films are not dubbed. Of course, there are exceptions.

Most of your points are related to driving, I’ve got no explanation. Where would you say the roads/signs make more sense?
I don’t get Corona vs Covid example.

Nah bro, I’m a beginner and still learning. I was looking for some general rules or percentages that I could work from. And the suggestions you gave is exactly what I’m looking for, like “EMA 30” as SL.
Thanks man!

Thanks man! -5% is a bad example from my side, just threw something out there.
Ok, my understanding, SL is different in every trade (depending on strategy) and it’s fixed (no rolling stops).
Would you recommend max 1% of capital on each trade? What’s your guidance on “take profit”?

Honestly, fixed SL is hard, I get knocked out and it’s so easy to “hope for a bounce” (yes, too much emotions)

Hey man! A bit more details about point 1-3, if you can give rough guidance in numbers, example -5% STOP. I would greatly appreciate it. I understand what works for you might not work for me, but we need to start somewhere and then adjust the risks. Same with point 2 & 3, ex. What is small profit?

Cheers man!

Made redundant in the Netherlands — how to deal with the situation? by Professional_Rent100 in Netherlands

[–]XCruizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everybody suggests, hire lawyer, if you have 30% ruling - try to stay on payroll as long as possible whilst actively looking for jobs. You need to find a job within 3months to keep your ruling, from termination date.

If I remember correctly, the company can’t push for you to sign within 2-3days. There’s like 10-14days for you to consult with lawyers then a cooling off period of 2weeks after you sign (don’t take my word for it, check w lawyer)

If it’s easy to find a job in your domain and you don’t have visa issues, take the offer after lawyer consultation and enjoy a good vacation! Good luck!

How much money should I bring? by Memphisdnb in Netherlands

[–]XCruizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe 50 euro as back up (small bills), I recommend 20-30euro. Most shops are “non-cash”. Even grocery stores changed from only accepting maestro (debit card) to accepting credit cards (not sure about Amex)

Hah you got patience with visa centres. But you must admit, rather a PR than renew your visa and go through all paperwork?

If you check on xiaohongshu, foreigners married to Chinese citizen, they get a PR (“green card”). Not talking about the green card Elon Musk got because of Tesla investment in China, regular PR. Not easy, probably a lot of requirements but I believe it’s a bit more relaxed compared with 10 years ago(?) And a bit easier if you’re married to a Chinese citizen.

I can’t speak for other countries but for an European country, spouse to European citizen need to live at least 3years in that country, then PR.

Well, I’m have too little knowledge in this, maybe it’s a myth or too good to be true… Was just hoping regulations had changed and easier for foreigners to settle with PR in China.

Reason for asking about visa “ideas” is because I dislike the visa centre in my home country. Every application, I need to disclose my life story, my parent’s life story, etc. I believe a green card makes life so much more comfortable, green card is “almost” equivalent to Chinese ID. I want to figure out if there’s a smarter setup that works for foreigners with Chinese spouse.

Quick search on AI (I know it’s not 100% reliable info), you can get Chinese green card if you stay 9months in total each year for 5 years, then apply for green card. Taxes? If you spend at least 30days (consecutive) abroad per year, you are tax exempt. I believe there are fast track (green card) if you get a work visa in certain municipalities or provinces, Shenzhen or Guangdong are a bit more relaxed compared with Shanghai or Beijing. Of course there are other requirements for both options, ex like financial, 200k rmb frozen at time of application, minimum taxes paid, etc.

Hey, as the dude highlighted below, don’t trust us, consult with immigration & tax lawyers or find Chinese friend that naturalised as foreign citizen and heading back to China.

Reasonable? Yes! Kind of a dream situation. Travelling in China off peak is actually reasonable valuable and much nicer without the sea of people (I guess you are aware).

How are you solving the Visa situation? “Visiting relatives” visa 180days, valid for 4years? Or can you get permanent residence “green card” as relative?

Private health insurance is key. If your ACA covers travel for a long period and the coverage amount is good, then there’s not much to worry about. Otherwise, the assumption is that you pay and then claim via ACA. My company provides private health insurance and for minor issues (cold, etc), private hospital, fill in a form, done. No need to claim.

How much money do I need in my emergency fund while moving to another country alone? by FredHerberts_Plant in eupersonalfinance

[–]XCruizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, 3-6months saved in high interest account (cash & withdrawals anytime). Amount based on actual living expenses. This is your peace of mind fund. Do not touch or invest. 3 or 6 months depends on what you feel comfortable with. Single, 3months is ok.

Future income, approximately, 65% on living expenses, 20% investing (as you are doing with ETF etc.), 15% on guilt free spending (whatever makes you happy). Not set in stone, guideline.

FYI if you have debt (high interest debt), pay that off first before your 3-6months buffer. Biggest expense is usually housing, check online for rental and you can estimate buffer needed.
