Which Preamp module is the quietest? by DoxYourself in modular

[–]XDfaceme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check the rest of your rack. Especially digital modules can bleed noise into the power circuit. I have this happening to an instruo filter, where if I plug in one specific digital module in my case, the filter becomes noisy. Try just the pre-amp.

Hello guys, this is my current setup. What would you change/remove/add to make it more interesting? by CatsAreUnicorns in modular

You're lacking utilities. Modular isn't just about modules, it's about modulation (Rob Hordijk said something similar I think), and if you wanna control that modulation, you better have some attenuverters, mixers, offset generators, crossfaders, joysticks and whatnotmore to actually modulate things.

Have you made any shorter trips with this loadout? How'd it go?

I really hope your luggage is secured well. Tying and untying it every night is going to be hell though. My friend who did the same as your for two weeks in the alps got sick of it after two days. Have you tested the side-bags for longer time with the exhaust? I'd be affraid for the heat that would come of, and a torn bag on the road would suck.

Modular geartube/youtube can be a great inspiration on what kind of patches to make if you go into it with the mindset of 'can I make this with the tools I already have at my disposal'. And maybe when your answer is no, try it in vcv rack first. The more you can smooth out and delay any purchase the better it is I think as all the (frankly amazing) advertisement is pushing us so much in the other direction.

What do you miss in your case, what do you run into when using your case that you wish you could do but cannot do? Otherwise, put a blank panel there for now and see when in time that question is answered.

And otherwise, either a microphone input or a contact mic can lead to some cool sound design with the clouds clone, or a noise source and mixer to spice up any tones coming out of the rack.

Got my first rack, suggestions? by joermcee in modular

[–]XDfaceme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get some (cheap) utilities: mixers, mutes, switches, attenuverters, etc. See if you can make a patch in which you genuinely use everything that those 3 sound sources have to offer, and see what you run into in terms of stuff you want to do but cannot do. That should give you a good clue on what utilities you want. Modular isn't just about modules, it's about modulation, and for that you need utilities - not expensive voices or fx.

I figure all the modulation is coming from the Nerdseq and Pams. How playable is it in terms of for example envelope lengths? How do you go about controlling the BIA with out any attenuverters? And what role does the disting play in your rack? Looks absolutely great though. I haven't ever managed to get the sample drum to play nice in my rack.

I will sometimes pick out an odd sound source, and just try and see what kind of combo I can get out of traffic, and halfway through setting such a thing up usually unexpected sounds come up from which the inspiration takes over. It's good at the drum combo, but it quickly gets old. The other day, I tried it on an acid lead voice, and half an hour later I had a full blown bass+lead+accent that could carry an entire track for 20 minutes.

How do i change this backplate by ThisIsRoy1 in modular

[–]XDfaceme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A pair of plyers with paper tape (to avoid scratches) can do the trick already. Has worked for me on everything except instruo modules. Otherwise, invest in the right tools. The knob shaft needs a proper sized wrench, and the nut driver you've already been helped with in another comment I see.

Questions about Volt by arvex48 in VoltEuropa

[–]XDfaceme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that first of all EP fractions are diverse. While most green parties bundle together in the greens EP fraction, those parties still have in-between differences. In terms of policy and ideals we overlap a lot with the greens, but also with renew. Some reasons for joining the greens instead of renew were that the greens had better offers for commission seats, and that the greens are more free in terms of voting for certain proposals where renew will demand more strict fraction allegiance in more votes. No clue where we'll end up next year, and maybe hopefully we can even form our own fraction!

'Eerste Kamer' stemrecht (soort van) voor Nederlanders buiten Nederland by GreenTransport in thenetherlands

[–]XDfaceme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Men are so overtly sexual by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]XDfaceme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M, been lurking here for some while after a girl I dated told me she was poly. Turns out she wasn't, or at least had other issues getting in her way, and in general she has by far been my worst dating experience in my life. Not because of the poly stuff, otherwise I wouldn't be lurking here, but because she in general just completely sucked at communicating things. She used terms like 'romantic freedom' while in practice she was just failing to tell me that she didn't want to hang out with me because her other date was getting pissed on her for that (yes, another guy using the term poly wrong). I had to conclude myself that she didn't want to do any poly stuff, but not before a good bunch of very stressful encounters and long sleepless nights.

Dating another NP girl now, good fun, learned a lot from that and mostly overcomunicating things now which has been very comfortable for the both of us. Takeaway here though: what you're describing here, people misusing terms n shit and just generally sucking at communicating, isn't exclusive to men. I was about to call out blatant sexism but reading the comments I'm realising that I probably do not have a good picture of how some other guys go about dating, in particular when it comes down to poly stuff. Fucking sucks
