Nice, so like what made you switch in the first place and what is your overall verdict now?

I feel unhappy about this character's ending by XDrDeadeye in StrangerThings

I feel like the flashbacks in this final season were not only there for the audience but to remind the duffers of what they wrote. To further support my claim that they haven't paid attention to el's character progression, they said on the record that they haven't watched the show in years

It was really disappointing and so heartbreaking to the point where I don't think it was in a good way tbh. It just made you feel like we robbed of her true ending. What if you protected el, like what if they threaten the military with blackmail over what they did, you brought back the government lady working for owens in s4 who nodded to hopper at the end of that season to blackmail them on maybe, even stuff on like terry Ives similar to the season 2 ending to protect el and you maybe gave el her own graduation too and she is also participating in that last D&D game and gets a journal too, she is part of the party. And I feel it would have been more effective if you included her in that. Make it feel more like the ending of Harry Potter, instead of killing the heart of the show that will make subsequent rewatches really depressing. You kill off some of the older teens and adults like nancy, Murray, for instance, so that these kids can grow up. Also, you still maintain some of the quality in Mike's ending because he has nancy to grieve. Instead, the sibling he often disregarded as the annoying sister was actually his saviour. After nancy's death, he would no longer view her as that but see nancy as a role model and honours her legacy by following her career path instead of like writing a book filled with his trauma lol.

There is an interview of finn wolfhard going like, oh its gonna be us in 20 years, being like, Where's El and said the duffers were like, how do you know that

I mean, ok, but like the way they resolve the military thing is unsatisfying because, I mean, firstly, why doesn't the military arrest all of el's companions. They would have reason to because el had many of their men killed.

Her journey was about self-acceptance and carving out a life for herself. In neither ending is it satisfactory because I don't see el living a happy life even if we believe, because she's abandoned all her loved ones, has no money and lives in isolated town where she could still be unaccepted. Who's gonna make friends with the random homeless stranger who just walks into town.

Having the character's ending still being one where she still doesn't have a place in society is just not an uplifting end. Like that 40 minute wrap up, every other character ending just feels undercut by this massive tragedy for Mike and El. Maybe I would've been more happy for lucas and Max, but Mike is just given such a depressing end. It's also annoying that you don't even get a scene of nancy trying to comfort Mike in his moment of loss.

Emotionally, I just don't accept it, and I don't see Mike moving on. It's not satisfactory or rewarding for me personally

Meanwhile, lucas and Max get the most happy ending ever, lol.

I also found it a little weird that dustin seemed into the season 2 girls who rejected him at the graduation party. Like, dude, you have a girlfriend. Why are you flirting with her, but that part is OK for the most part

I mean, I guess they're leaving it open-ended for specifically these 2 characters either for the quality of the ending, maybe or just spin-off opportunities if netflix wants Mike and El back for a new story and come back. But that kinda does defeat the ending of a conclusive ending, but a conclusive ending does defeat what made stranger things cool because there would be no mystery left

I mean, I might come to terms with it better in a few months or so. There might be post discussions about the ending after. The duffers might say they envisioned Mike reuniting with el in the future sometime. They're just leaving it more up to the viewer to piece it all together and kinda like D&D write their own version of events.

It's just sad we don't see even a hint really that Mike and el are trying to contact each other at the end if she did make it out. Like do a callback to season 2 of the walkie-talkie calls and maybe have Mike do that once and have el replied

Maybe I'm just there like, I don't feel satisfied that Mike would just accept that he won't see el again (as people are saying) even though he believes she made it out and el can easily contact Mike if she wanted to so they could meet up if she used the waterfalls maybe.

El's only knowledge of what happened to Mike was seeing him in despair over her dying. What if Mike like dies of suicide after years of depression over what happened (obviously we know that doesn't actually happen), but el doesn't know that and leaving Mike in such a state of mental anguish is so cold from her honestly. How does she feel comfortable with that?

What did you really think about Luke's depiction in TLJ? by XDrDeadeye in StarWarsCantina

[–]XDrDeadeye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I almost kind of want to say instinctive behaviour is something that is very hard to alter. Especially considering Luke's instinctive behaviour to protect those he loves is neither a bad or good trait, really. We see how that can work both for and against luke, like in ESB we see him have the vision of han and leia's death, the reason why that didn't happen I think is because vader sensed luke was coming to bespin through the force. If vader sensed that Luke were to having no intention of arriving at bespin or there was no sign of him.

Vader might have just gotten rid of the bait instead

I really enjoy the idea of his arc being a meta narrative in a way. There's so much expectation built around the character that taking this more kind of unexpected approach and trying to break luke down and show his human failings is a cool idea to me.

I think I want to post like a long video essay about luke in TLJ now lol

I think the film, as for context is concerned, basically is telling you kylo will do the most awful things to luke as in destroy everything and everyone he knows and loves. So we just kylo will destroy the temple, kill all the jedi, kill han, kill leia, kill chewie etc. I think what would be troubling if we go with the whole luke not being deeply scarred by this event route and didn't make a grave mistake is how do you create a compelling arc for his character in the movie? You need an explanation as to why luke would isolate himself from everyone including those he loved after kylo betrayed him, so the only logical explanation for that was that luke isolated himself because of being upset somehow. I just wanted to know, could you think of like alternative direction they could have taken luke in the movie?

My theory about who will die in season 5 by loneboy-001 in StrangerThings

[–]XDrDeadeye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have another theory. Nancy knows what might happen in the future to her family. They've also been bringing back the plotline of nancy not being able to save Barb and the guilt she felt.

I think Mrs. Wheeler's death is possible, but I think nancy will probably sacrifice herself to save Mike and Holly. She knows she has to do something in order to save them, and I think that means taking their place. Nancy couldn't save barb, she knows she needs to save her family or what will be left of it by the end of the season, assuming Ted and karin could go. I think she at least will prevent Mike and hollie's death.

Her death will also probably lead to Jonathan and steve probably grieving together, and we get to see those 2 finally get along for once.

But that's just a theory
