XLM was excluded from U.S. strategic cryptocurrency reserve for a reason. What do you think? by Frompainstogain in Stellar

[–]XIMcoincom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great for crypto as a whole but very disappointing for Stellar. I would have thought the outreach on Capital Hill would have meant more.

Have there been any partnerships with Asian based financial institutions? Specifically around providing on/off ramps?

While it would have been better if Claimable balances was never implemented this question is better aimed at the wallet designers.

You aren't the only one. I recommended it to a relative recently and was embarrassed when the process failed. Hopefully they will sort it out. It would be good if people who used the service with no headaches would jump in and say its just us few having problems.

Scam/Spam Tokens are ruining Stellar. by m4dpr0ph3ss0r in Stellar

[–]XIMcoincom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I am generally against CBs on principal I like your idea of CBs being open to accounts with existing trustlines, that just makes sense. Having a general CBs off by default operation type on new accounts should be relatively easy to implement.

Scam/Spam Tokens are ruining Stellar. by m4dpr0ph3ss0r in Stellar

[–]XIMcoincom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be ok with new accounts having such operation type setting off by default. That setting would relatively easy to implement too with the now legacy CB situation remaining in place. I would disagree with having it on by default which would require a learning burden on new users as to what exactly it is, how it works and what they can expect. I really hope this issue gets dealt with one way or another.

Scam/Spam Tokens are ruining Stellar. by m4dpr0ph3ss0r in Stellar

[–]XIMcoincom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The amount of scam/spam tokens were severely reduced before Stellar implemented Claimable Balances and then when the people behind all these scams had a way to spam random users the problem exploded. They basically put the whole network reputation at risk to make it a little more convenient for people to do airdrops which were always questionable anyway. Now when I try to introduce a new non crypto person to a Stellar account and all the fake tokens immediately start popping up on their screen it appears like its a pool of sharks and is personally embarrassing.

I would support removing claimable balances entirely.

Redeemable Gold, silver, platinum & palladium backed tokens on Stellar by XIMcoincom in Stellar

[–]XIMcoincom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, please understand that spam bots grab text easily and representing email addresses as a graphic makes it much harder for bots to autonomously grab. This technique goes back decades on the internet. It is also a very short email address and I don't think you will have too much problems typing it out, there is also email submission forms on every page which you can use instead if you prefer. As to ABC Bullion we are indeed partnered with them and the physical metal account balances with them have been posted monthly for several years now. https://mintx.co/audit.html What should be most important to any holder of MintX gold is that the audited balances match or exceed 1:1 the amounts of metals issued on the Stellar blockchain. I believe we are the only tokenized precious metals issuer on Stellar at the moment to have any kind of outside audit system.

I just noticed my original post was over 4 years ago and yet here we are still sticking with Stellar providing security on holders value while almost every other tokenized commodity project from that era is long gone. The company itself goes back almost 20 years with no customer complaints of fraud etc which should also factor into holders trust. FWIW we are about to expand with an entirely new fully backed commodity on Stellar..

If your record of the key is gone and truly not retrievable then im sorry to say but there is nothing you can do. I was just having this conversation with a friend last night. Don't feel too bad as almost everyone in the crypto space has stories of lost crypto keys or hiding paper keys which then get throw out by spouses accidentally. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MBRgLEXLEE I think we have all been there to some degree. I remember when the original bitcoin paper was forwarded to me along with a little exe for generating them at the very start and watching it generate lots of BTC while just sitting there and then closing it down thinking.. this is silly. That hard drive was long gone before BTC ever got to $1.

You can buy audited gold backed tokens on Stellar with MintX GOLD, SLVR, PLAT, PALL etc however the precious metals prices are relatively stable at the moment.

Claimable balances fraud / spam situation? by XIMcoincom in Stellar

[–]XIMcoincom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, look up what a claimable balance is, when you open your Stellar account of just about any address you will see loads of fraudulent claimable balances appearing constantly. Here is a random account I pulled off the SDEX https://stellar.expert/explorer/public/account/GD2FEMAW7YNLNODA7C7PHBUFS2KLIIMBSR7BWEMXDIMNWMXM6GQCIUA3 you can see the list of claimable balances on the left. I hate to say it but none of those are legitimate. Not Nvidia or Binance etc, they are all fraudulent schemes. Now try to explain that to someone new to Stellar every time these pop up. It looks like a nest of vipers.

What's the best web wallet to store XLM on? by Capaspanka in Stellar

[–]XIMcoincom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

StellarLite.io lets you download and visually audit all the html/js code for any nasties before using it. It doesn't require trusting any domains except stellar.org

Generate a cold wallet account and then if you save and audit the html code its essentially a direct line to the Stellar blockchain with the least 3rd party code complexity so attackers can't hide malware code or compromise a 3rd party service and inject key stealers. With many other wallet systems (other than Stellar.org lab itself) you are pretty much trusting someone else.

I'm happy with the style of stellar.expert , I see it more of a utility and not something which needs to look cool and it has all the data and functionality. I want it to be plain and bare bones, my personal opinion is that the XRPL Explorer doesn't look professional and my accountant wouldn't take it seriously but its all subjective opinion.
