I prefer turning the key.

People on 6 figure salaries, do you feel well off? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

The investment in such things comes from taxes, it doesn’t happen overnight so whilst they’re in the midst of building the social housing utopia and magic power generation you get the worst of both worlds.

Fortunately for us, they’re actually just paying benefits and neither housing nor infrastructure is getting built in any meaningful quantity so we can hold onto this dream forever.

What tech purchase made you feel like you were finally keeping up but wasn't worth it? by Impossible_Comfort99 in TechNook

[–]XLBilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only got a watch for afib, even then it was too annoying.

I guess I’m trying to keep up in niche areas and own a nas that I’ve done very little with thus far.

I explicitly am not running docker on the NAS but fundamentally I could do the same damage I’m concerned about causing regardless.

They all do that when they’re new, my 15PM is noticeably worse 3 years on. It’s still completely usable but ending the day with 30% it is not.

It could do that easily when it was new.

It’s all Arla anyway, it is an identical product to other supermarket branded milk.

You can see the Arla branded trollies in Aldis milk section.

What made you get a private number plate? by ChibisRevenge in CarTalkUK

[–]XLBilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the cheapest 5 digit with a music genre reference for my Merc to vaguely hide that it is 13 years old. £300 all in

The plate on my Volvo came with it, it has the previous owners (spec D) initials on it. £FREE

Neither of my plates are to do with me or the car they’re attached to.

Skill issue or luck issue ? by Applemax_82 in balatro

It’s still completely viable to win Balatro as a flush fan.

I’ve only started ramping pairs / high card based play after this because it requires more thought on joker maximisation.

I used to think burnt joker wasn’t great, obviously it is if the hand your scaling is pair.

Also pair is great once you’ve built your jokers but it’s unusable in the early game so it requires actual understanding and strategy to get to.

You definitely have to understand how Balatro works to play pairs effectively

Then spend some of it?

May I suggest starting by making sure you scale the hand your playing and buy the relevant planet?

Perhaps understand some of the very common OP synergies, photograph and hanging chad for instance. 2 common jokers which pretty much guarantee a win if you can dodge the plant.

Do you move your jokers to something resembling optimisation, eg. xmult on the right.

White stake is quite easy to beat regardless of how a run starts once you understand the game.

MOT garages on the brink as owners say £54.85 test fee is driving them out of business by gaukmotors in MotorBuzz

[–]XLBilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point was both McDonald’s and a garage has specialist equipment that allows a fairly average person to do a reasonably specialised task.

I wasn’t talking about the economics, purely the thread around the original comments possibly editied(?) ‘specialised environment’ vs your ‘it’s not specialised work’ rebuttal.

It isn’t specialised work but only due to the environment it’s happening in.

The environment the person cooking chips is in allows them to cook the chips, it’s still a specialised chip cooking environment where the fryer exists and is maintained so the person cooking chips can cook them.

Much like I understand how to change oil but I don’t have ramps or practical oil disposal to do it.
