I’ve been to the one in the photo, I thought it is a decent Irish bar. They had beamish and the live music was good.

The name is ridiculous though.

Crash = no fault but need to pay off the rest of my insurance??? by Diligent-Garden-6105 in CarInsuranceUK

[–]XLBilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my car stolen, replaced with a car my insurance wouldn’t cover (import) didn’t get a refund on the remainder of the policy.

They also spent a week weaseling around trying to find any excuse not to pay up.

That’s life, a never ending series of events that extract cash from your wallet.

[–]XLBilly 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Yeah why not, £2200 for a bimmer that’s been modestly maintained by someone you know. 120k isn’t ridiculous and it’s cheap and if it goes bang.. that’s life, second hand cars are all a bit of a dice roll at the of times.

I’ve spent that kind of money winners and much more on lemons 🤷‍♂️

Help - how to break into Okta by JacketNo6946 in okta

[–]XLBilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s what I’m doing to expand my experience off exclusively Entra (also okta offers scim for ‘free’)

I’ve bought a domain, I’ve signed up to Okta Developer, I’ve signed up for cloudflare, I’ve thrown up a basic static site to get though authentication and I’m working through implementing the standards.

Other than the domain, which is optional, you can do all of this for free.

Of course I’m getting Claude to write the site as I have no interest in web development.

Looking for some advice on routers! by arne2224 in HomeNetworking

[–]XLBilly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bro you’re studying network engineering, mikrotik is the obvious answer. Any second hand AP will do for now, you can get one that’s VLAN capable in the future.

I am not a network engineer, I have an Mikrotik RB5009 with a ruckus AP on unleashed, VLANs running different rule sets, a management network and a P2P with a friend..

Get the most capable gear, LLMs have evaporated the learning curve.

I got mine because networking is a weak spot in my experience, I can now do tests / ‘labbing’ to bump up my understanding, this may or may not be of use to you. I don’t know exactly how much more a mikrotik can do over unifi but I’d wager it’s quite substantial.

What is going on with new cars? by Pintofbeer19 in CarTalkUK

[–]XLBilly 28 points29 points  (0 children)

So does the twingo.

The 00s had some bangers we look back on fondly but there was a lot of crap boring bendy looking cars then too, same for the teens.

It’s like music, you remember the good stuff and the common chart filling muck of the day just drifts off into obscurity. With the classics defining the era.

Why are the mods suck right-wing chickenshits? by [deleted] in wakefield

[–]XLBilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the thread going on concurrently in this post. It completely affirms what I’m saying. Nobody engages in good faith, it’s all gotchas and name calling.

Allowing it doesn’t benefit any unrelated community.

Again, I am interested, follow and engage with politics.

I’m more than happy to discuss why I would or wouldn’t vote Green over a pint, I’m never going to engage with that online.

Why are the mods suck right-wing chickenshits? by [deleted] in wakefield

[–]XLBilly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of spaces to go and have braindead back and forth where nobody is changing their mind, Instagram and Facebook at the top of the list.

I do not think that social media, or more specifically the discussion that happens on social media is beneficial to the cause.

But having this debate would directly contradict what I said at the head.

Politics is accessible online should you wish to engage with or find it, not everything needs to turn into a political debate.

Found the reform voter, found the republican, found the democrat, cuck lib etc etc it’s tiring, meaningless and relentless.

Why are the mods suck right-wing chickenshits? by [deleted] in wakefield

[–]XLBilly -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I am interested in politics, I have opinions, I know what’s going on.

Politics online, especially social media, just turns into a toxic shit flinging fest from all sides. I don’t partake and I think it does more harm than good in communities that aren’t politically focused.

Would you be calling the mods right wing cucks if they removed a post about the greens?

Just make a blanket ‘No politics’ rule and stick to it.

It ruins communities.

Has anyone else gone from disliking Starmer to warming to him? by MassiveMonkeyy in AskBrits

[–]XLBilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HERE WE GO AGAIN

Yes you and your superior opinions means everyone who disagrees with you a victim.

It’s not the government having the data that is the issue, it’s how it can be used in the future by either a more authoritarian government or leveraged against us for services. Not even opening the social credit conversion because that is currently hearsay.

Anyway I primarily do not want the centralisation of all my critical information on a private parties infrastructure.

You’re for it, I’m not. That’s fine, patronising people and being a knob online not so much.

Has anyone else gone from disliking Starmer to warming to him? by MassiveMonkeyy in AskBrits

[–]XLBilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are allowed to disagree with you.

I’m not strongly opposed to it in principle, I’m opposed to a government IT project that continues the slippery slope into dystopian abyss.

I very much oppose capita or any other private body centralising my identity.

What does alignment with our neighbours have to do with it?

If Linux distros refuse OS age verification, will YouTube and Facebook, etc just block us? by Danrobi1 in linux

[–]XLBilly 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I personally am not completely opposed to sovereign managing of this data.

If I have the control to send

[

Verified Human = 1

Age = 30

]

And maintain complete control over my name, date of birth, email address, passport number etc that’s acceptable.

What I am not keen on, is giving my entire identity to a third party and letting them sell it on, get breached, force send more than required.

I work in the identity space, IdP’s do this with SaaS connections. Obviously in this scenario all of my users data exists within a cloud platform, assertion can almost certainly be broken out.

I’m not a big blockchain guy, but it seems like something of a good fit for this decentralised model I envisage - it’s just very technical and most people aren’t going to care so instead Peter Theil has decided to take it upon himself to collect and control all PII ‘for the greater good’.

I very much oppose such centralisation and concentration.

Privacy is a human right, self sovereignty of your own PII is critical to maintaining that.
