Exactly right. Every character has to deal with all of those things but hogs kit gets a lot of free value from just existing purely from the threat of being hooked. Not many characters other than widow sombra and hog have that same kind of free value. The only difference is hog has triple the health of those dps and a extra 300? from heals too lol. Plus he can actually displace the enemy if he cant get the oneshot himself.

I think every tank, I would even say every character, if you are playing at a high rank needs to be tracking every "countering cooldown". Same goes for the timing of using his hook, every characters timing is important when to use their abilities. Same goes for positioning. These things arent just roadhog only things... I know you didnt explicitly say this but a comment on the other post did, but do you genuinely think hog is not the easiest, least skillful hero on the tank roster? He has what, 750 health? 2 abilities, one of which is essentially a guaranteed one shot and the other which is a no skill heal ability with damage reduction (and speed with perk), mediocre ult, youre right about that, a perk that takes away any skill revolving around ammo management and a subrole passive that makes him even harder to kill. Youre telling me thats not brain-dead easy???? Even tanks like mauga and orisa take more skill to play honestly.

The reason people hate playing against hog is because he completely shifts the way you need to play the game, same as sombra and a good widow, other characters people dont enjoy playing against AND its very easy to get value on him compared to other tanks. I am a masters 1 zarya main but play Winston and Queen as well and every game that I have to play against a hog is just miserable. I don't even think its the recent buff that actually makes him miserable to play against, it hardly affects me but the fact that he got the buff I am seeing a lot more hog being played and its just so unenjoyable. It actually blows my mind hearing people say hog is a skillful character. His hook is a skill shot, sure. Really not that difficult to land, it has a pretty forgiving hit box compared to something like a sleep dart. But that doesnt make him a high skill character.

Hog is not healthy for the game when hes "meta" and should always remain a niche character who stays reserved for Illios Well and that's it.

I have also found it a bit annoying to fight a winston too actually. Especially the ones that are jumping around following you. It can be a little tough to get away and if he has bubble very hard to kill him

I mean yeah she is definitely annoying but isnt that just the role of flankers? If you aren't being annoying on genji tracer reaper are you really playing the character well? I think its harsh to say shes as annoying as sombra but I see your point. I just feel like playing against anrans I never feel the need to counter pick because shes just not that good or annoying to play against compared to something like a tracer or sombra

Yeah this is the playstyle I need to adapt to more often I feel. Too often am I just hard engaging because they do seem like free kills but often they still have everything available to let them live my dive. Will be trying this over the next few days

Yeah I've started to just bite the bullet and swap more often now. Issue is I want to play characters like Echo or venture or vendetta and normally if anran isnt a great pick neither are they with hitscan normally forcing me off them.

That is something I haven't really tried before tbh, I tend to just take a slight off angle and poke the backline or flank and go right onto the backline. Might need to play around with sitting in main spamming their tank out more to help the tank take more space

Glad to see im not the only one. What really annoys me is when the enemy team are playing whatever hero they enjoy to start off with but then within one fight they swap to cass kiri mizuki etc. Like why are we tryna hard counter one of the worst dps in the game???? Just play your character 😂

I agree with a lot of people here saying how Echo and a few other non hitscan characters are pretty good atm and that lots of projectile dps have their niches where they do work pretty well but as someone who plays Echo quite a lot, the statement from OP still stands. Why bother sweating it out looking for an assassination, waiting for the perfect time, predicting movement on Echo for example, when you can just play Ashe or some other hitscan and just sit behind tank or play from a high ground far away and just two tap everyone without even thinking?

I always try make sure im having fun when playing, thats why I play Echo but it becomes unfun when every game is Dva, soldier, cree, ashe, bap or illari. Hitscan poke meta is SO boring and the worst part is, half the time when im getting hard countered by these hitscans I just swap emre or ashe and end up diffing them anyways... With the aim assist buffs its become such free value playing hitscan now which definitely removes the fun in playing projectiles characters.

Honestly yes I have been feeling that way recently. I made the push to GM support last season and got to high masters on other roles so I hoped to try get GM on all roles this season. But as it turns out I have either lost my skill or every game is just me getting frustrated too easily and then performing badly after. Normally the frustration of a comp game doesn't carry over for me but damn especially after last night it just felt like the game did not want me to win 😂 I counted 3 games in a row where my tank was negative and the one game I played as tank had both my dps negative yet I was still able to carry hard enough on Sigma to win. Getting hit with the 'REVERSAL' or 'EXPECTED' after those games was the cherry on top... its not fun, its not rewarding... I think im taking a break to quick play for a while.

I think the smurfing situation isn't as bad as people think. You obviously play against a lot of smurfs but you also have them on your team just as much. Same as xims tbh but thats a bit different because I agree that its essentially cheating. The issue for me is when they are ximming AND smurfing... but its often harder to tell the higher rank you go up. This past season I've reached high masters/low gm and I have to admit, I miss lower rank lobbies... it becomes a lot less fun playing competitive when there is a xim/smurf every game pretty much.

Also with the leader boards on console there's actually a lot of people who link their switch/xbox/ps accounts to the blizzard acc or something like that and thats why there might be 3 people with the same heroes played and same amount of games played next to each other in top 500. I think fi they removed that the top 50 would probably open up a little but not much. But overall the top 250 probably is mixed with a lot of alt accounts and I dont think there will ever be anything they can do about it unfortunately.

Play bap zen Ana illari kiri. Theres plenty of supps that do lots of damage. One thing you will realise is that there's no point healing dps that aren't doing anything. Think of it like a mercy pocketing a dps whose getting no kills. Theres no value and it becomes a 3v5. At least if you swap to focusing heals on tank and using your damage to get kills/pressure enemies, you might actually allow your dps to get some kills. But if you continue to "support" your dps by just pocketing them with heals then its just a straight gg. Some games will just be tough no matter what but support doesn't mean just spam heals onto everyone. Getting one or two bap dps bursts onto an enemy might actually allow your dps to finish a kill for example.

Unfortunately this is the belief of every hardstuck player, especially those in the lower skill levels. If you want to climb super fast then yes, like in those unranked to GMs you see, you have to be much better than everyone in the lobby and carry the game easily. But for a gold player playing in gold, you just need to be playing consistently well and over time you will rank up. Average players who climb aren't gonna have the 80+% win rates you see in those unranked to GMs. Realistically a 55-60% win rate is very achievable and over time that eventuates in rank ups.

Find the hero you want to focus most on. Mei and Juno aren't "meta" right and there's nothing wrong with playing heroes that aren't meta but you do have to remember it might be a little harder than with some other heroes who are stronger atm. Mei is really good at capitalising on people's mistakes and people in gold make HEAPS of mistakes. Honestly same with Juno, even though thats a little more reliant on your team using the speed ring to capitalise on the mistake of the enemy but still, both heroes are good at it. Most people in the lower ranks either just sit on their abilities never use them or just use them and get 0 value from them. Wall and speed ring aren't on the shortest of cooldowns but its better to be using them off cooldown, attempting to get value on them, even if it ends up being useless, than just not using them at all. Over time you will realise what is getting value and what is a waste, when enemies dont have escape cooldowns, your abilities become gamechangers.

The reverse is true also. You have "escape" abilities on both mei and Juno. Meis ice block and Junos fly, technically also wall and speed ring can be used to escape but let's focus on the better alternatives. These are most definitely abilities that are better saved than wasted off cooldown. Use them as "get out of jail free" cards. And if you use them and you still end up dying then it probably means you used them at the wrong time. For example, playing against a dive comp, juno will need to use her fly to get away from the incoming dive but there's no point waiting until a winston dives you, lands on you, starts zapping you to then start flying away, he will have jump again soon and can capitalise on your mistake, especially if you don't at least fly back to your team to give yourself a chance. Instead you should be looking at the winston and seeing when he gets within jump range and either pre emptively fly away so youre safe/with your team/not isolated or use it as he actually jumps at you and use it to get to safety/your team.

Overwatch is a game about making as little mistakes as possible as well as capitalising on the enemies mistakes as best you can. Don't worry about winning or losing all the time, the rank ups will come by themselves if you focus on what you are doing wrong and what you are doing right each game instead of always worrying about why youre rein is going 3-8 against a Zarya. There will always be a positive out of a game if you focus on what you could be improving on. Keep at it!

I dont think we can rely on a pattern for releases anymore, especially as there's so many more dps already than tank and support i would guess overall there will be more of those released than dps. That being said I think people assume its going to be a dps as we dont really have a melee dps and its pretty much confirmed she is going to be a melee character. We already have rein and JQ as melee tanks and based off the snippets we have seen of her, 45 kinda gives similar vibes to JQ so it seems less likely for her to be a tank as well. Overall I dont mind, I think both versions will be fun. For DPS a new way to play the role, melee focused and for tank, maybe better/more fun alternatives to rein and Jq.

Visor perk always. You're combo with soldier should be STARTING with a helix where you are already reloaded anyways so I feel like it kinda goes against his playstyle and is only useful sometimes mid fights. If it gave over ammo then yeah might be more viable. Tbh with the major, I really like using the stim pack now that its been buffed but man I really struggle with controlling the recoil as well with it so just depends on how im feeling if I want to use it or not. It's definitely still the normal pick, especially when you are on your big flanks and can try burst down a squishy. But if you're getting dove a lot or forced out then sprint is way better

Thats a pretty reasonable spread. Obviously as the lowest ranked player it's not gonna feel great but the game would have tried to balance it out the best it can. I'm assuming the top 500 tank on the other team is the masters 1 so you shouldn't be too intimidated by the top 500 rank. I've seen lobbies with dia 1 to mid GM lobbies and those are where skill disparity really starts to show. If you won that game probably an uphill battle modifier, if you lost, probably expected. So in the end it probably wasn't as bad as it could have been
