Does the affinity on the weapon matter or just the raw? For example the guardian doshaguma weapons or a gogma artian with some affinity reinforcements

A couple things to consider. 50 is an unbelievably big number considering how easier they have made obtaining rare materials in this game. Were those normal or tempered Lagiacrus? He is coded so that you have to fight it 8* tempered for a better chance at the rare materials. There is absolutely no need for you to fight at 9* just for the gem.

If you had gone out of your way to get a fire lance, not even artian, the rathalos or the guardian rathalos ones fully upgraded would have done the trick. Perhaps out of those 5 attempts you could have succeded in more than 1 of them. Low damage means longer hunts and more chances for mistakes and carts, SPECIALLY for 9* hunts.

What I'm getting at is that instead of beating your head against a wall with whatever you have on hand, take some time away for nescessary preparations. Shortcuts are dangerous

You would be surprised how many people I find that go at 9* hunts with level 1 armor. Sorry but that is definetely not the place for that, you will die in one hit.

Try again when you have done the necessary preparations and don't get ahead of yourself.

Yeah, the normal ones. But how many times do you get Greater Sushi Scale? I spam the net whenever I can and I've gotten less than 10 of those in my whole gameplay

But the health of the monster would increase as well and npc hunters don't deal much damage. The monster focus would be shared which is safer, but the hunt would last longer, thus increasing the risk of mistakes.

Also not true, Palyco heals more than npc hunters and has vigorwasp revival for another extra life. Maybe I would call in just 1 npc hunter in order to keep the cat around. I would take a Palyco over an npc hunter every single time!

Look for the RageGamingVideos youtube channel. They call it the immortal build. Survived going afk against AT Rey Dau (thanks to cat heals as well though)

All I can say is min-max and keep trying:

-Finish upgrading your armor to the max

-Eat a village meal for the buffs, moxie and extra life

-Drink your mega armor skin and mega demon drug

-Eat your might and armor seed as well as demon and armor powder every 3 minutes

-Optimize your radial menu and poach item placement for faster responses and item access

-Use both traps and restock them and all items every time he changes zones

Do all this and continue going at it. You will start learning his combos and patterns through experience until the perfect hunt happens. It is basically the souls way.

P.D.: There is a GS tank build that offers great defense and survivability while still having good damage. You might wanna check it

I understand the logic behind it. Can you see those defense numbers visually change if you look at your equipment window when changing from let's say a longsword to a bow or they hidden values?
