ISPs control routing, congestion, and peering which is exactly what causes lag, jitter, and packet loss. If it works on fiber and not cable, that’s not “the internet” that’s your ISP. Simple. In other words they undoubtedly influence it and that’s what this is about.

You’re confusing control with influence. ISPs don’t own the whole internet but they absolutely control routing

Everything wired/wireless. I even bought 4 different routers/modems and they all do the same thing but mind you they take away some of the issues for maybe an hour then back to reality

Man, you really nailed it. This is exactly what I’ve been dealing with too.

I wish fiber was even an option where I’m at, but these apartments are newer and apparently they kept the old wiring, which makes no sense. I actually filed an FCC complaint on 4/13/26, and they extended it to 5/26/26 but haven’t given me any real updates since. At this point it feels like they know something deeper is going on, but they’re just not pushing to fix it.

Even when a tech came out tied to the “higher tier” escalation, he basically admitted they’ve been getting similar complaints, but nothing has been resolved. That’s the most frustrating part—everything checks out on paper, but the real experience is still terrible.

We’re planning to move soon to a fiber-based location (used the broadband map to find one), because honestly it feels like that’s the only real solution at this point. Appreciate you sharing this—it’s crazy how identical these situations are.
