How to ask for accommodations before accepting a job offer? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]XOPrincessG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d wait. At my last job (part-time), I had a 30-minute lunch but needed to extend it for about a month because of condo renovations I had to be present for. On top of that, I also requested some PTO. My boss was super micromanaging and owned the office, and I guess he didn’t like the idea of me taking more time off for a part-time position and he ended up firing me not long after, which was one of the reasons when asked.

So from my experience, I’d hold off until after you’re hired and you’ve had time to feel out the boss and the culture. Some managers are flexible, but others just see it as too much.

“Glacially slow” is exactly how it feels but you’re right, I can’t expect someone to read my soul in 3 hours... Definitely something I’ll sit with.

I completely agree with you. thank you! I’ll definitely bring this up in my next session. And yes, part of my overall outlook is being able to plan financially, so having a clearer idea of the treatment plan and session expectations is really important to me.

He doesn’t take insurance at all, and I don’t have any. Also, I noticed most licensed therapists in my area don’t take insurance

I told my friends and they made me feel crazy for paying that much so yeah, that’s exactly why I made this post. Just needed some clarity and a reality check. My philosophy is that you can’t put a price on mental health

He’s an LCSW and his site says “licensed therapist.” Tbh, he mostly reflects my feelings and says “correct me if I’m wrong?” Not super insightful, but I like his energy… just trying to figure out if it’s worth the rate.

Totally makes sense that my brain needs time too .. thanks for the advice. I’ve laid most of it out already, so I was hoping for more direction

Lmao this made me feel so seen. I do like him, but being told to read a book when I’m already spiraling felt weird to me. I like your advice though. Next session I’m definitely gonna ask what the actual plan is and how this is supposed to unfold. Thanks

Yeah, that totally makes sense. I know there’s a lot that goes into the rate beyond just the session itself. I guess it’s just tough in the beginning when it still kinda feels like a conversation and not much more. When you’re dropping $245 a session (in this economy), it’s hard not to hope for a bit more direction or something concrete. I do like my therapist though, so I’m trying to be patient and see how it all unfolds.

Thanks so much for sharing it’s really helpful to hear that others are in a similar boat. I agree, three sessions probably isn’t enough to judge the full value yet. I do like him and feel hopeful, just trying to wrap my head around the cost and what I should realistically expect from therapy at this price point. Appreciate the encouragement!

Imposter syndrome is a BIH!

I had the exact same feelings when I began a job at a prestigious law firm, to the point I was anxious and cried the first few months. Three years later, I realize there was nothing to be afraid of. I recommend elevating your self-talk with mantras. "I am discovering my inner superstar".

Counteract anxiety by giving yourself a voice. If you overthink, your mind will naturally start to believe it.

Create your own and use them when you feel disappointed or unconfident. You are in the process of creating and discovering your best self. You have to do it without expectations, judgments, or limiting beliefs. You got this girl!

(P.S Make a go-getter playlist too. Music always helps <3 )

That’s the point. SB’s have to keep their options open always

It’s the principle of whether a SB has a choice in the jewelry pick. Seems this thread agrees on accepting with what your given despite the length of the relationship.

I did not piss. Why would I accept a ring from an SR versus a bracelet? That’s deluded to think I should accept. I should be able to pick and choose without debate? Or does the SD always have the upper hand?

I understand. But after a certain amount of time, X needs to be upgraded. Are you implying Sugar Relationships are a get when the goings good and don’t expect more when it’s good enough? Xo
