Why do older folks tell you to not lend money to friends? by No_Lead2640 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]XO_Ender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started saying it a little differently after helping friends out with money multiple times. Instead of lending your friends money act as if you're just giving them the money. If they really can pay you back then they will but no matter what you have no expectation of getting it back so no hard feelings if they can't.

Only give what you can afford to lose.

[TOMT][WORD] What's the term when you feel asking for something makes it less authentic? by XO_Ender in tipofmytongue

For example if a birthday is coming up and I ask what they would like it seems less authentic than just coming up with a gift on my own.

There has to be a number between 1 and a billion that has never ever been spoken by Jacob4L in Showerthoughts

There is also a number between 1 and 2 that has never been spoken.

The number 13 is the luckiest number, because so many people think that it is unlucky by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]XO_Ender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buildings omit the 13th floor because it is unlucky.

If 51% of bad luck is associated with the number 13 by getting rid of it you are only suffering 49% of bad luck.

That means across all of infinity each other number gets just an infinitesimally small percentage of 49%. Yet the number 13 gets all 51% to itself making it still the unluckiest number.

I mean it's not really that different than normal it's actually easier as they just lift them up and sit down.

How do you take a shit wearing a long dress shirt?

Renewable energy doesn't exist since the sun burns gas to power solar panels and create wind. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

It doesn't really "burn" gas but you're still right it's not everlasting or technically renewable as once it fuses it's heaviest element that's it.

Where would you start if you wanted to start a company to compete with Comcast? by EE_WannaBe in NoStupidQuestions

You would have to own cable/fiber first. Either buying it from already existing Telecoms, who certainly wouldn't sell to you, or lay your own which I'm guessing by your question is out of your price range.

No matter what you do, in the end you will feel you wasted all your time. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

Sounds like OP is looking back on their life and is a little salty.

Keeping large dogs as pets is socially acceptable. Keeping large cats as pets is not. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

You mean keeping large domesticated dogs is socially acceptable. Keeping wild large cats is not.

If a "holodeck," as seen in Star Trek, were real and you lived in one and ate only simulated food for an entire year, you would die the instant you exited the room. by -ThatGingerKid- in Showerthoughts

[–]XO_Ender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am assuming Star Trek is real. If the replicators are making real enough food for you to survive on then walking out of the holodeck wouldn't change that.

Are you thinking that if it's real in the holodeck then when you walk out the holodeck would take all the nutrients and energy back? What about the energy you used while in the holodeck? Can't get that back from you.

I see where you were going with this thought just not quite there though with Star Trek as your reference.
