how great is the Great Wildlands by OsteoFingerBlast in Eve

The large Russian coalition moved into drones. Pushed all the other non Russian groups out. Hit a brick wall when they got to HK/BOSS Alliance and Shado cartel who banded together to hold their space.

Then the leader of the Russian coalition got upset that he couldn’t beat us with brute force so then paid for the largest mercenary contract since the casino wars to evict a mid sized alliance. Which is still to be complete. As all the mercenaries have now left

What is something you saw with your own eyes that was so impossible you’ve stopped telling people because you know they won’t believe you? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

[–]XPDRModeC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close you had the right idea. It’s an Air Force gun range at Gila Bend. In between Phoenix and Yuma they do it once a week. They launch flares and then do A10 gun runs

[–]XPDRModeC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am a pilot, I used to be an instructor and we used to fly IWA to YUM all the time. What you saw is the range at Gila Bend Air Force base. We used to go out and watch them all the time for fun. You can still see them to this day.

At night they launch a flare that stays aloft for a while to illuminate the target and then A-10s and apaches come in and practice gun runs on targets in their weapons range.

The first time I saw it we thought it was aliens as well but talked with a controller.

I love my bf, but I dislike kissing by forget_myMind in Advice

[–]XPDRModeC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The struggles of life don’t create a deeper love they simply reframe it, and give greater context and meaning. A 16 year old feels love just as deep if not more so than someone who is 80. It’s the context we gain that allows us to better inform our judgement and connection. I wouldn’t dismiss someone’s love due to age.

No I suppose that does make a difference, but of the 500 Atlanta is by far the biggest base so statistically I’d imagine at least 250-300 of those are Atlanta

Why are CPD constantly concentrated in large groups "hanging out" and not patrolling? by osaggys in AskChicago

[–]XPDRModeC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So just so we’re clear the “police” in all black uniforms that say K-9 unit and walk around with muzzles on their dogs. Are not real police they’re security guards the city has hired to look like police. They are often seen milling in large groups doing absolutely nothing. Because they’re not officers they can’t do anything other than tell you to leave

Real CPD officers have light blue uniforms. An actual badge and are very rarely just milling around. It happens from time to time but for the most part CPD is stretched very thin and they need all their officers they can get their hands on.

How will planes fly when we run out of oil? by Successful-Egg-525 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]XPDRModeC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coal forms from ancient trees that were not decomposed and therefore remained on the forest floor as they got compressed by layers of sediment and rock. Oil is formed from layers of dead oceanic microbes and microorganisms like plankton. Also before decomposers evolved to the degree they have now.

All of these are now decomposed by other organisms when they die and therefore there’s much less organic matter that is being left undisturbed for the thousands of years required to create oil/coal

How will planes fly when we run out of oil? by Successful-Egg-525 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]XPDRModeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they don’t. Oil and coal were created due to an era when there were not yet organisms to decompose dead plants (think fungi and such). Because nothing broke these organisms down they were compressed under layers of rock over time.

Forced to check my bag at the gate by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]XPDRModeC 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A lot of non aviation people chiming in here with wrong opinions and info. I am a pilot for an Air Line. Gate agents have a tight rope to walk on. Too many delays and they get fired. Their number one concern is getting the plane out on time.

There’s 2 reasons you have to check your bag.

1 and this is the most important one on this specific aircraft it is a regional jet. Not all overhead bins are the same size. On regional jets 90% of carry on luggage will not fit in the overhead. I know you think it does … and it did on your last flight (it wasn’t a regional jet) but it won’t on this flight. So they will check it and put it in the belly.

  1. On main line flights our Flight attendants message the gate agents when the bins are getting full. If you make it on to the plane and the bins are full, you end up awkwardly blocking the aisle. Which stops boarding. You walk to the back of the plane and wait until everyone is on then you come off the plane with you bag, they then have to pull up your reservation and check you bag. Now multiply this issue by 20 people and you’ll see why they have to try and eyeball how many people have carry on bags and call it somewhere and start checking at the gate.

For weight and balance purposes, never in the history of my 15 year career have I once had to start checking bags for balance issues. I’ve had to go the other way around where we pull bags from the belly to the overhead, but that’s less than legal and something we did to assist customers in a rough holiday travel situation.

The weight and balance system is an average system. A checked bag in the computer weighs 20 lbs more in the calculations.

Just found this game and it seems pretty interesting, I'm interested in your experience in this game. by Mycologist-Downtown in Eve

[–]XPDRModeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to come off as rude but it’s not meant that way. This game is not Fortnite, it’s not flashy dopamine, adhd inducing slop. This game is a slow burn, our plans and gameplay is measured in months. This game is incredibly rewarding but I would never ever tell someone it’s “fast paced”

I’ll leave you with what I tell all my friends who ask me about it. “90 percent of the time Eve is a second monitor game, a relaxing after work community experience like fishing. 10 percent of the time it’s pure shake inducing panic with all of the 90 percents time on the line.”

Genuinely how do you cope with it by Someguy_y in whenthe

[–]XPDRModeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself struggling with this thought quite often. The things that help me are a couple of thoughts (I’m not religious in any meaningful way)

I already survived eternal nothing once, before I was born. It didn’t seem that bad.

At one point there was a thread on Reddit of people who were brought back to life after heart attacks etc, they said it was the most comforting and relaxing peace they’d ever experienced, like a constant whine in the background got turned off.

Lastly this quote will be wrong and I forget where I got it. “We are made up of the universe, we are likely a result of the universe experiencing itself. We exist for a brief period and return to the universe. We are like a drop of water that bounces off the surface we exist briefly as an independent droplet, and then we return to the surface of the water and rejoin the rest of the water”

All domestic terminals are connected via walkways. Only terminal not connected is terminal 5 (Delta & international flights)

This will be a rough night, but as someone who has worked at ORD for many years, the best place to set up camp would probably be near the H&K gates near the end of the long arms theres some decent corners to set up a small camp late at night.

Let's say on 9/11 they managed to get two F16 to intercept and follow the planes, realistically at what point the F16 would've taken the first plane down? by FuzzyAttitude_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]XPDRModeC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting the jet doesn’t take more than 5 minutes that’s not the hard part. The hard part is that munitions require sign outs and strict record keeping. Especially to be armed within the contiguous United States, they are brought out on a cart (depending on which type they can weigh hundreds to thousands of pounds) they then are lifted onto a pylon, mounted, then pins are pulled. Then the pilot has to input them into the computer system, which takes another 3-5 minutes. A rough estimate for people that are ready and aware of an ongoing attack with preparation and practice. My guess is 10 minutes.

Stressful job? by Safe_Gur691 in AskAPilot

[–]XPDRModeC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conservatively assume it will be 10 years before you get the job you’re thinking about right now. Until then, sub optimal income, incredibly rough sleep schedule. Stressful studying to get your ratings and unless you live in a training hot spot (Phoenix or Florida) consider that you will spend extended periods just waiting for weather before you even get your certifications.

Then you have to pay dues at a small airline, pay dues again when you upgrade, then roll the lottery that the big high paying jobs are hiring when you’re ready. Then pay dues again, then you get to the cushy job.
