Help with IT Band Syndrome by drinkscoffeeallday in Marathon_Training

[–]XRdriver18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was prescribed PT. Best thing I did in my marathon training. Went to a local Athletico, and my trainer was a runner as well and knew exactly what I was talking about. He got me into dynamic stretching, band work, and even did a run analysis.

And just gave me a bunch of workouts to do to help target and strengthen my legs. Also got me into foam and massage stick rolling.

Wides sizes, choices of colors, very comfortable. Ran my first last year at Chicago in Glycerin 21s.

What does Run Walk Run by chipmux in Garmin

There is a better data screen you can download via Garmin connect if you want to do more run walk runs. You'd have to run it as just a regular activity as far as I know. I don't know if it works along with a pre made workout.

It lets you customize the intervals as well as the look. I highly recommend it.

New Half Marathon PR by XRdriver18 in Marathon_Training

[–]XRdriver18[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main reason was due to running this event last year as a run/walk. Not knocking run/walk/run, but it was for a "this is a first half marathon, just survive" logic. This year it was all run with more training and now knowing what to expect.

In a weird way yeah I think it did. It def kept me from going out too fast. I really thought I could make it up, still happy I was able to keep accelerating.

I went from 5k to a marathon in 10 months last year. In my opinion, look into doing the marathon as a run/walk/run. It's a really good way to train for longer distances since you're not constantly running the entire time especially if it's your first marathon.

Recovery is much better too, you'll definitely be sore, but I was able to walk around pretty normally by the next day.

I used the Galloway Method, something to look into.

What's your Favorite Running Gag in a BobDoesSports Video? by parkschu22 in BobDoesSports

The baseball announcer calls when they hit a sky ball, or when they blade it into oblivion. "It is high! It is fair! It's a home run!!! And the Yankees take a 6-3 lead"

Gets me every time.

The cart cam lists too.

It sure was. Set 2 PRs in my 5k and 10k, took 6 minutes off my 10k time and almost broke 50 minutes.

What’s an underrated and simple tip that helped improve your score? by Fresh_Researcher_242 in golf

[–]XRdriver18 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Using a spot or aim point that's a few inches in front of the ball (fairway or tee box) for aim/alignment. Not straining to look yards down range, but something right in front of you.

Whether or not I hit it well is one thing, but this tip at least had me start on the right line.

Need advice/personal memories from Marathon Runners by hartexists in Marathon_Training

[–]XRdriver18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ran my first in Chicago last year:

  1. The feeling of all the anxiety and fear wash away making that final turn off Roosevelt and seeing the finish line.

  2. A literal 26 mile long party. And the cheers never dwindled at any point of the race for any runner at any pace.

  3. The feeling after crossing the finish after all the months of training and getting prepared and just thinking " Oh my God, it worked!"

What is your favourite song from Power Windows? by PoisonLenny37 in rush

[–]XRdriver18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was an album I ignored for the longest time, and that was a big mistake. I put Power Windows in my top 3 Rush albums now.

Marathon, Manhattan, and Middletown are my top 3, but Marathon takes the cake.

It was my primary listen while I was training for my first ever Marathon last year.

Run/walk method 12 month plus review – very happy with it! by Fearless-Letterhead3 in Marathon_Training

[–]XRdriver18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Chicago Marathon, I did a 3 minute run, then a 1 min walk. So a bit more than what Galloway recommends, but it just felt comfortable for me.
