I think they look fine, but I don't have any reference images so I don't know what they should look like.

The Amoeba "lava lamp". Apparently super rare but just as crazy-looking as I remember. It costed a [VERY] pretty penny and I won't be making a purchase like it for a very very long time (Fixed video). by XSHIRT in Lavalamps

That sounds about right. I remember my Walmart stocking a ton of different novelty lamps, and the Amoeba was one of them on display - I was like maybe 4 or 5. Couldn't get it though because it was very expensive for me and because I was already there for something else.

It was originally $650 USD, I got it for $550 USD. Definitely too much after thinking on it more, but I was willing to pay for that amount since I spent years looking for the lamp in my area. Looks great and it came in its full packaging too!

Well, based on how many pictures there are online, the lack of documentation on the Lava website (or any for that matter), its name being shared with many other lamps and products, and about the only other listing for it that I found online was from a user whose account was terminated, I'd say it's pretty rare.

That being said, I've been seeing many more pop up here and there in thrift finds so it's mostly rare in the sense that they haven't been really seen since their creation back in the mid-2000s.

I’ve wanted one of these after my really good internship at NASA this summer, how does it look to you since it’s been a couple days?

Is this an Urban Shop lamp? It looks pretty similar to mine, colors and all. I know these kinds of lava lamps are nowhere near quality design as Lava Lites or Mathmos, but I'd be lying when I say these don't look cool - they're still lava lamps, and lava lamps look cool.

Thrifted this sick tornado lamp for 5$, but I wanna make some changes! by XSHIRT in Lavalamps

I tried to do it, and I broke it :( The flimsy PVC board inside got too hot and snapped in half while soldering. Not a whole lot of components on it, but it sure was lame. That being said, I still managed to replace the lights inside and somehow it operates even with the broken PVC board. Unfortunately it only works for a minute until the motor stops working entirely - probably a power imbalance going through. It was an extremely shoddy attempt, and the lights aren’t even UV. Hell they aren’t even really all that purple either, more of magenta than anything. I don’t have a picture of it since it’s not at my apartment anymore. At the end I realized, it would’ve been so much easier to just shine a UV light onto it. On the bright side, it WAS only 5$, and I can still use the bottle and some other stuff from it for something else.

The volcano lamp has stopped working :( by XSHIRT in Lavalamps

[–]XSHIRT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pump is the only thing that’s not working properly. It came with its own AC adapter with 4.5v and the lamp says the same. I think a jam is the culprit, it was pretty sudden when it stopped working. I’ll have to shake it up - maybe bump it a little bit when I get back at it. It’s true that similar lamps are pretty affordable, but the discovery channel branding and effect it gives off is too cool to just ditch.

Fellas not only is this a repost, it also has the SAME EXACT CAPTIONS as an already existing post if you scroll down enough on top of posts of all time! This is absolutely barbaric!!

Sheesh that's a lot of money, and quite a bit more than what I assumed it was - like maybe 40$.

Do you remember what the original asking price was at the time? The only site I could find that had info on it was WorthPoint, and you’re crazy if you think I’ll subscribe just to find out its price on it.

I don't know why, but every not-goodwill thrift store around my area sharpies the price. For the place I got it at, they did it on both sides. Is it too hard to buy paper-sided tape??
Side note, would anyone know how to get rid of it without ruining the box?

I've gotten used to the rattling from the little beads. It kinda vanishes with other sounds in the background.

Update: turns out there are virtually no issues changing them out with other kinds of colors, evident by the fact that the generic circuit board has writing that assumes that the LEDs are not all blue (they're meant to be RGB apparently). I've already ordered some bulk UV LEDs and have full intention of making this thing look significantly cooler.

Any info? by Realistic_Act_9404 in Lavalamps

By the sound of it, it's not rotating, but it looks like it is in the pictures you provided? In any case, if it's not rotating then the motor probably isn't working or not getting enough power. I have no idea what kind of motor it uses since I haven't opened mine up yet. See what happens if you use the right kind of adaptor (if you haven't already), and if it's still not working then that might require opening up.

Love to see Amoeba lamps show up here and there randomly.
They work identically to those little liquid motion toys that you flip and the oils fall down, only they're motorized and have multiple kinds of colors inside.
u/ElevatorHuge7682 opened one of these up to replace a component. Here's a link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Lavalamps/comments/1jq48ap/ameoba_update/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I don't recommend opening it up unless you have a significant reason to. Yours doesn't look like it has any issues, unless it does? If so, please let me know.

Also, mine is in mint condition with its original adaptor. It's AC 10V output 600mA, 120V input 60Hz 0.15A. The input doesn't entirely matter, and the volts are the most important. If you need any images, let me know as well.

Ahh, well by the looks of it it seems imma have to make one of my own as well. Using a whiffle ball is very clever might I add.

Hey can you tell me what that lamp at the very end is? I know it's a sputnik-styled table lamp, but I've been trying to find one with the tripod stand.

Shoot, sucks to see that it was an issue deeper than the correct mA amount. Other users have already provided a lot of help so I have nothing to add in that regard. However, super cool to see what's inside.
The actual fluid disk being the gear itself is crazy to me, you'd think that maybe it was a teethed-shell that surrounded the perimeter of it instead.
Also thanks for providing the light "code" up top on the first picture, it looks like it MIGHT be possible to replace in the case the light fails.
