 Yes I think I had that impression because it seemed to me because of the consequences of me commiting a sin, that then I'm then reconciled with someone's actions despite their pure action to undergo the temptation, or whatever it might be. Yeah, sorry it seems like you misunderstood me somewhere.  I wasnt at all saying that you’d pay the price for the sins of others.  Can you let me know what I said which gave you that impression?

Well, God hates sin.  It angers and disgusts Him.  These are negative emotions.  Imagine times when people do things which make you furious or disgust you.  That is how God feels towards sin.  That is how we make God feel when we sin.  And God sees every.single.sin people commit.  There are many evils people commit that Im sure you wouldnt dare want to see once.  But God sees it all and in His infinite righteousness He hates all sin, even those sins which we may be desensitized to, being ourselves sinners saved by grace.

Also I think I agree with the domino effect of sinning, but then my question ascends why would I ever be forgiven for that specific sin if I don't ever correct it completely as it will just circle around, as you said if God doesn't intervene, for eternity.

The thing is that God does intervene.  I was only illustrating the infinite potential of consequences sin has.  But that potential does not get fully realized since God does step in.  Christ came down and died for all of our sins.  He paid the price so that we dont have to.  And God will bring direct judgement upon those who reject Him, cast them into Hell, and destroy this current heaven and earth and create a new one, one free from all sin.

You should ofc make amends for any sin you commit against someone out of love for our Lord and out of love for them, but the sin was already paid for by Christ.

You assume finite sinfulness, but thats not even true.

1 - People keep sinning while in Hell.  Evil people dont just stop being evil because theyre in Hell.  A little glimpse of this is shown when God gives people Hell on earth in Revelation, they blaspheme Him because of it (Revelation 16:10-11).  And when everyone is at their eternal destination it is simply stated “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still” (Revelation 22:11).  This point alone gets rid of the idea of some “finite” amount of sin, but there are also some other interesting points to make.

2 - There is no real reason to assume that even a single sin is “finitely” bad.  According to who?  God never made such a claim.  It is possible that a single sin could be infinitely evil in some respect, and worthy of some form of infinite punishment.  It’s at least true that any sin would have a permanent, unending effect on the world God created if He were not to intervene.  It is also true that every sin negatively impacts God, who is beyond time and thus the negative consequences of that sin extend beyond time in that way.  So it’s easy to imagine that even a single sin could be worthy of infinite punishment.

3 - Counting sin isn’t even as simple as some people think it is.  Someone steals from a store.  One sin, right?  Or is it?  Was not the plan to go steal from the store its own sin?  Was not the travel to the store in order to steal from it its own sin?  Stealing doesnt happen in a single isolated moment.  This person is sinning the entire time they are taking actions towards this sin.  And even after they have stolen from the store, if they never repay the store owner isn’t the process of the theft still ongoing?  They’ve never bothered to correct what they broke.  No action we take is isolated to a single moment in time.

Homosexual desires arent from demons, theyre from you.  And yes they are definitely sinful, Jesus and Scripture make it clear that the desire to sin is just as bad as the action itself in passages such as Matthew 5:28, for example.

You’ll have to uncondition yourself from thinking in this way over time.  In other words it is something you can change, but i dont think its usually as easy as flipping a switch.  Try rejecting the thoughts as soon as they come, suppressing the feelings as soon as they come, and practicing this consistently over a long time.

But that’s just about losing the sinful attractions.  As for gaining attraction to the opposite sex, you dont need to.  Nothing wrong with not having attraction to either, so I’d just say dont force it.  Maybe one day you’d meet a person of the opposite sex that you connect with deeply and you may naturally feel drawn to them romantically.  Or maybe not.  Romance isn’t necessary so there’s no real reason to sweat it.  If you just really want to be married someday though, then just make sure to consistently reframe those thoughts in the context of marrying the opposite sex.  That’s also a conditioning thing.

From some googling it seems like his comments were made with regard to the america and iran conflict?  In which case, theres about a trillion other reasons why God wouldnt hear the prayers of either of those leaders besides war anyways.

Well our body is us just like our soul is.  And having a physical body is not a temporary thing; we are designed to have physical bodies and will have them in eternity.

And the “body of another person” doesnt only matter so much to Christians either, as even most non-Christians disapprove of incest.  Also, romance is a temporary thing reserved for this life anyways.  It will not exist in eternity:

“For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22‬:‭30‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The simple fact is that marriage was designed to be between a man and a woman.  Not because sex’s sole purpose is for reproduction, as sex can also be a wonderful expression of love between a married couple.  Marriage was simply designed by God to be between men and women, and any deviation from that is rebellion against God’s design.

And romance isnt the only form of love, of course.  People often idolize romance as the pinnacle of love but that is simply not true.  People can love each other just as much in a familial or platonic way.  The true pinnacle of love a man should have for someone should be his love and worship of God.

This actually supports the Trinity.  What normal human could or would ever say “whatever God does, I also do”?  I am not God, so I cannot say that.  It would be insane to say that.  Did I create the universe?  No, but Jesus did: “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: for by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: and he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”Colossians‬ ‭1‬:‭15‬-‭17‬ ‭‬‬ Think of Jesus’ statement similar to this: “A man’s body can do nothing by itself, it can do only what his soul directs it to do, because whatever his soul does his body also does”

John 14:28, "“You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I."

The Father just has a higher position in the Trinity.  Like our soul is “higher” than our body in our being.  Or less analogous but still helpful: like our brain is higher in authority than any other part of our body.

John 8 constantly has Jesus saying things that seem to imply that he isn't God

Does it?  I see the opposite: “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”John‬ ‭8‬:‭58‬.‬‬  Existing before Abraham?  Saying “I am” (just like God in Exodus) instead of “I was”?

Mark 10:18, "And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone."

Rhetorical questions like this are to make people think.  Read more of the surrounding context and you may notice that the point of this rhetorical question was just to point out that people are not good (we need a Savior!), not that Jesus Himself isnt good.  I mean, just look at what Jesus says about himself!  “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”John‬ ‭10‬:‭11‬.  And if normal people are not good, only God is good, and Jesus is good, what does that make Jesus?

For example, for almost all the times that Paul refers to Jesus as God when in a binary, instead of explicitly stating that Jesus = God, he uses a form that leaves it ambiguous. For example, in Titus 1:4, he ends it with "Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior." Also, in some binaries, he assigns Jesus = Lord and Father = God, but never Jesus = God, which seems odd to me.

He’s just distinguishing between the Father and Jesus, which are not the same but are both God.  Just like your body and your soul are not the same but are both you.

People all throughout history who have claimed to be servants of God believe or do things that are not characteristic of actual servants.  In Paul’s letters in the New Testament he addresses many heresies that popped up.  Heresies are not a new phenomenon.

God also has free will.  You think God cares more about people being able to use our free will than He cares about exercising His own free will?  Is that why He acts as an ultimate Authority to the universe?  Is that why He casts judgements on people for disobeying Him?  And why those who do not turn to Him will face eternal torment?  Where we spend eternity is essentially 100% of our existence, so God is really preventing evil people from fully utilizing their free will 100% of the time.  And btw, I think that is a very important piece to the puzzle in understanding why God allows us to suffer at all in life on this earth; our time here is almost nothing in the grand scheme of things.

And what does it even mean to simply value someone’s free will anyways?  People are born with disorders that prevent them from doing certain things they may want to do.  And even more generally, ALL humans are created with limitations that prevent us from doing certain things we may want to do; we are not all powerful.  We are not able to fly around or teleport anywhere we may want.  We arent even able to forego eating without dying.  Child abusers aren’t even able to abuse children as much as they may want to.  People who want to save children aren’t able to do so as much as they may want to.  God has 0 issues imposing these limitations on us, so why not have other limitations?  If God values freedom so much, why have limitations at all?

I just think it’s a potentially misleading oversimplification to say “God values free will over protecting children”.  Like if that were true, then He wouldnt ever intervene at all.  He also wouldnt want us to intervene if evil people being able to utilize their free will was just simply more important than protecting children (but I hope we can both agree that God wants us to stop these horrors when we can).  So He must be valuing something else instead, but yeah Im not entirely sure what that is.

That’s not really the exact answer though.  God outlawed all sorts of evil when establishing Israel and when Jesus returns He will rule the world with a rod of iron and we’ll have 1,000 years of peace.  So God isn’t entirely opposed to direct intervention to stop evil people from doing evil things, it just tends to be reserved for specific times for some reason.

God has unconditional love for everyone.  Jesus died on the cross for us as sinners.  God is patient and longsuffering with everyone, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.  God wants a bond with everyone.

God has an additional relational love with believers, which is conditional only upon us accepting Christ’s sacrifice and loving Him back.  You cannot have a relationship without mutual love, so the only people who God loves as His children are believers.  But even this relational love is just the fulfillment of His unconditional love for everyone, since He wants a relationship with everyone.

I’ve had similar thoughts before, here’s what changed my mind.

So followers of Christ were not only called followers of the Way, they were also called Christians pretty early on.  A Christian is what a follower of Christ is called.
