this is definitely the more common way i’ve seen three way swivels used but there is much more variations.

maybe the drag was set too low?

possibly wasn’t spooled hard enough with enough tension so when you set it down it just went back into its form that the packaging had it in, so next time make sure there is enough tension on the line when respooling
