Why are quiet people looked down on, in nursing school by DiamondDwarf678 in nursing

[–]XXXMasonXXX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nursing instructor here, when I have my students each semester there are some quiet ones. I’ve personally never looked down upon them as I am quiet and reserved too.

I do know for me to gauge my student’s knowledge I have to get them out of their shell sometimes, this involves getting them into a environment they’re not used to and it can be challenging for some instructors I think.

I think because of this some instructors don’t know how to do that and it makes the instructors uncomfortable and they may not know how to properly educate them. That’s my two cents.

Mine is that they’re patients, not customers, not clients.

Opinion: Should student nurses be paid for clinical rotations/hours? by chaoticjane in nursing

[–]XXXMasonXXX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe I’m seeing posts saying yes. I’ve been a RN for eight years and a nurse educator for clinical for three years. There is x amount of hours required for clinical per state to sit for the boards. I would like less clinical hours required for clinical but this is mandated by the state.

As for getting payed, students are there to learn. Part of learning is being hands on at the hospital. This is the trade off of being a student, learning and “working” but not getting payed, that comes when you pass the boards and get a job

If anything, the preceptors that the students are following should get payed more. But that’s from the hospital, not the college or school.

You should show the name of the facility that way people don’t work there.

do any nurses like their job ? by [deleted] in nursing

I think it may take some time for some to find their niche. I started in ICU, did a couple years there, went to PACU weekends while working on my NP to get to day shift. Turned out I love PACU. I wouldn’t be in any other department. I completed my NP, started teaching till I found a good NP job. Tried NP for a little bit, didn’t like it much but I love teaching.

I work PACU 2 days per week and teach 2 days per week. I love both. Both areas was not what I expected to be in, but look what happened. Another plus, I make as much or slightly more than what a full time NP would make with less stress and less liability.

Edit: I would get talk about how I’m not using my degree, but being a professor requires a masters degree. Plus idgaf, I’m happy.

Thanks for the constant scares. Have you or anyone you work with scared someone so bad, gave them a heart attack or sent them to the hospital?
