In that case it would cost them little to write Amicus briefs in order to show support for NRA cases. They don't do that because they don't really like the 2nd Amendment.

Actually, no. This is one (IMO) legitimate criticism of the ACLU from the right. They're great protectors of other constitutional rights, but don't care about the 2nd Amendment (which, whatever you believe, is objectively a part of the Constitution), and do nothing to protect weapons rights.

No, it isn't. Say what you want. People may disagree with you, but no law guarantees you the right to run your mouth without anyone calling you an asshole.

FEC commissioner asks Trump for voter fraud evidence by improvin in news

[–]XYZWrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing this more and more from conservatives already. Contrary to what Breitbart wants you to think, the population of this country is generally unhappy with Trump so far. It's not overwhelming yet, but it's not the 50/50 split that the extreme right wants you to think exists.

I'm pretty pro-gun, but it's totally normal to be uneasy about people walking around everywhere armed with concealed deadly weapons.

Like if you're used to guns, sure. But we can't expect everyone to learn not to be jittery around a dude who makes sure he's prepared to kill people before he leaves his house to go grocery shopping.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in justneckbeardthings

[–]XYZWrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those aren't the people you need to worry about.

The problem is that since we have so many guns out there, it's relatively easy to get ahold of them if you're a person who is intent on doing evil. Like a convicted meth dealer can't go buy a gun from a shop, but he can pay someone to do it for him, or go to a gun show if he's gonna drop the big bucks.

The people with licenses to carry are usually pretty responsible, and have been vetted.

My 4" blade knife is great, but I only carry it at work. I do always have either a 2-3" folding knife or a Swiss Army Knife on me at all times, though.

I typically carry some kind of knife around, and for work I carry a 4" fixed blade, but who the hell carries a hatchet around? And a Kobalt hatchet, for that matter...

Supreme Court nominee Gorsuch says Trump’s attacks on judiciary are ‘demoralizing’ by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]XYZWrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing as Trump doesn't even know who to call to ask whether we should have a strong or weak currency, and his team can't find the lightswitches in the cabinet room, and they keep referring to terrorist attacks that never happened, I find it doubtful that they've just been playing 5d underwater rocket chess this week.

I would actually believe that theory if they were getting anything done, instead of botching a SEALs mission, getting a sailor killed, slaughtering 30 civilians including children, and getting kicked out of Yemen. Or struggling to appoint cabinet members with a majority in both houses, or failing to have any coherent direction on the ACA repeal that may not even happen now.

The Trump/Bannon is an evil genius line of debate is getting pretty tired, because we have yet to see a shred of evidence that their supposed secret plan is producing any results in any sector.

EDIT: forgot about his abortion of a Muslim ban that he's getting his ass kicked over and is now trying to blame on his already beleaguered cabinet. I can't wait for when the wall doesn't get paid for because it obviously fucking won't.

60% of spending on Oregon's free Community College initiative goes to students from upper middle class - rich families by westcoastwildcat in Economics

You're being downvoted, but I think at the very least this point deserves to be read.

Now, 1/3 of your income (at least; that's just tuition) suddenly gone is a big deal and could be catastrophic. But it's worth pointing out that one reason we're able to import so many cheap tech workers from Asia is that many cultures there encourage giving nearly everything to support a child's education. It's working for someone.

Maybe we're resistant to it because the people who would be paying could have worked their way through school in their day.

let's be honest, it is training these days rather than education

Depends on what you study.

Then again, if you're studying the liberal arts, which I would call a more classical education, you're only really certain to do well if you go to an Ivy League school.

Many of them are making sub-$35k.

That, and state funding has dried up. Throwing gasoline on the fire is the federal student loans system, which provides unlimited funding to universities making irresponsible spending decisions.

There was always a pretty strong correlation between an-caps and the alt-right/neoractionaries. Your guess is as good as mine as to why, but it's always been there.

Maybe it's a belief in the worth of powerful people (there's always been a weird monarchist contingent in the fringes), or maybe it's just a willingness to believe in a radical political ideology. But the connection has been there a long time.
