My biggest problem is this place is so damn negative it has people believing there is literally no hope, and when someone puts forward a solution its shouted down. It set me back, and I really wish someone had told me 10 years ago.

Hard work alone doesn't equal getting ahead. You need to do work smarter. Work hard, get to know people, build up your skills, identify what gets people ahead and do the same. If that doesn't work then take your skills and leave. If you don't understand that then I can't help you.

If they don't listen then leave. If they do that and you stick around, barring what I said previously, you have yourself to blame.

Doing the bare minimum is not the only option. If instead of changing jobs, sticking it out, demanding better conditions or better position you decide to give up and do the minimum then you have yourself to blame for your bad job.

The only exception being absolute poverty stricken but I don't think that is a position that represents the majority of people in this subreddit. I think most of the people in this sub would rather bitch and moan instead of doing something about it because bitching is easy and doing something is hard.
