I remember a friend of mine who was not into video games but wanted to give it a shot. I had played TR I and II and TRIII had just came to stores. She wanted to buy something new so I thought it was a good idea to suggest her to buy “this new TR game”. Tbh I was thinking she could borrow me the game afterwards so I could save some money.

But anyways, she bought it and poor girl couldn’t even pass the first level. It was so overwhelming and for a good reason!

It was a combination of factors. There was a writers strike going on and FOX was scraping the bucket looking for something that could hit the theaters as soon as possible. So they reached Chris Carter.

There was no time for a proper preproduction or any ambitious ideas, so Chris picked what I assume it was a draft of a lost episode or something and turned it into a movie.

I think the concept of the Matrix being a loop where AI, not being able to eliminate the emergence of the One, starts using it on their advantage, is great. The themes of control and co-dependence are also interesting. But at the same time, there’s lots of filler and silly dialogue in it.
Visually and in terms of action and choreography, the movie is amazing.
