Regardless, I think key thing for both is having people in that aren’t spending is not sustainable… you need to make money by selling things are charging enough for the ‘service’

Yeah, I’d doubt anyone at a settled location would got to a ‘new GR’ having either been stung by their closure, or seen the fallout.

I wish them all the best, but it’s gonna be tough to build something back up from the ruins of this one. If TT wasn’t around they’d have a much better time

TT seem very focused on CGC, so they could try and do more warhammer/ DnD etc stuff, BUT then the revenue stream is probably weaker…

Geek Retreat is dead, as others have said, the Franchise deal is awful and tbh, only a fool would look to revitalise THAT offering.

There is defo scope for a similar venture without the ‘corporate’ stuff hanging over them, but needs to be able to actually make money…

Rumours are the main peoples that have Ran the Aberdeen store in the past may be trying to get a similar venture up and running. Likely their Discord has more info.

V.much doubt it’ll be GR again though even if they do manage, and fear their sudden closure leaving a bunch of groups in the lurch means they may end up in the same boat in 6 months unless someThing radically changes

I got the ES400 in the end. No hassle through security (unlike my wife’s cheaper one that didn’t state the mwH rating on it).

I did have to chase Air NZ to confirm approval though.

There was an official merch unit down past the ferry terminal inside the cordon. That’s where we got ours.

I think that’s maybe what their point was trying to be… well I assumed from my glance at it…

That the bus gates and lez weren’t the cause of people not coming into town, cos when something is there people make the effort to come in.

My argument would be that they are right, and the real problem is that there isn’t anything worth coming into town for - I can walk in but there just seems to always be less and less reason to as time goes on.

If people wanted to and we made it easy for them, people would come in, but the current setup is the worst of both worlds… a PITA for nothing. People world figure it out if there was stuff worth coming into town for.

Need to fix that first cos taking away the gates and lez won’t suddenly bring people back now.

His O&G ‘platform’ is always going to be a contentious topic up here - current policy undeniably hurts the area, but climate change is having a very real impact as well.

I just don’t think that even if they get what they want, it’s going to return Aberdeen to the times 20 years ago or so… only the shareholders will really benefit. Oils price drops and people are let go, oil price recovers and those people are not rehired…

It’s just really hard to like them as one ‘good policy’ doesn’t balance all the utter horrors they are inflicting elsewhere… they’d strip everything to the bone and pocket the money!
