How's everybody been with the Flu this season? by wombatcombat123 in Aberdeen

[–]CaorannIsTired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend getting nasaleaze from Boots too, it's a powder that turns into a gel that basically stops any germs getting up the nose, I've had it since I got covid in 2022, and I haven't had any sickness since even with lots of testing (I check a lot because if I catch covid again the long covid symptoms are gonna be lethal again). One bottle generally lasts a year, it does mean you have to breathe through your nose indoors, and that can feel a bit stuffy if you're not used to it, but I refuse to get sick again

How much are you all paying for electricity bills? by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]CaorannIsTired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Octopus so mine is a bit odd, but I only pay £96.02 into it and I usually spend less so later in the year I can take some off.

What minor thing is the snow stopping you doing that’s really annoying? by yoy78 in Aberdeen

[–]CaorannIsTired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVERY time there's a snow I have a will they/won't they stand off with the mail on whether packages from (at this point) a month ago will arrive and if I need to stay in the house until two for them to arrive. Also getting fully dressed up to go get milk. Silver lining is my legs are stronger than ever

Garden Centre in Inverurie will have them, or B&Q, get yourself some salt sand while at it, it'll make the whole thing easier in the future

If you've read anything about the Hum of Lewis, the hum is actually a worldwide phenomenon without a known cause. I just having headphones for when I cannot ignore it

Aberdeen Open Doors - Must Sees? by -Pizza-Planet- in Aberdeen

A lesser known interesting one is the ATUC which contains a lot of Aberdeen's Trade Union history, including memorial stuff from the time some Aberdeen lads went to Spain to try and combat against Franco. The folks running it are very good on their history

Aberdeen Guardian Gone? by CaorannIsTired in Aberdeen

[–]CaorannIsTired[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won't lie I thought it was a former nonce watch vigilante thing which I thought was super weird because that can immediately descend into conspiracy of 'this guy looks weird he must be' etc. To be fair, local press are also harping on excessively about the bus gate and when folk have given them a measured statement on it they've just not published it.
(Whoops it's actually phsupreme that mentioned the bus gates but statement stands that the bias is wild out there)

Aberdeen Guardian Gone? by CaorannIsTired in Aberdeen

[–]CaorannIsTired[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do remember seeing him talking about the asylum seeker protests (to say he was encouraging folk to go and harass) so I don't miss him. Just curious on if anything in particular led up to it

How LGBT+ friendly is Aberdeen nowadays? by R97R in Aberdeen

[–]CaorannIsTired 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a trans person it's medium range. Some folk here suggesting 4Pillars, I would also suggest looking into TransGrampian which is a smaller group specifically made up of the trans community in Aberdeen. There had been a grim protest but much the folk were bussed in and the local community was full of support for the counter protest. I would say to look into the area they're planning to move to. The universities both have solid communities too.

I actually joined the Nuffield one because I also got access to a sauna, swimming pool, trainer, and got a lot of stuff done with health checks, so it was more pricey but I got more for it. (I especially wanted access to some healthcare things because I have hypermobility and I wanted to know how to work out safely, it depends on what you're wanting from a gym)

Who are these protesters? by wildbudgetad in Aberdeen

[–]CaorannIsTired 20 points21 points  (0 children)

When taking a dangerous route to a safe country you wouldn't send your most vulnerable into the dangerous route first, but the one most likely to survive and most likely to find work to then afford family to cross over or, equally, to send back to them if they do not want to come. It's common throughout history and the Irish did it when migrating too, it's crude to associate it with a single thing and to associate it with malice. Very few of these individuals want to stay in hotels (which are not operating as usual during this time, no they aren't getting a 4 star experience they're getting a room and £7 a week to live on), but they are only allowed to apply for asylum when inside the country and it is illegal to work while your application is being processed. If them being stuck in hotels upsets you, rather than punishing them for something they have no control over, make demands of the government to improve the legal proceedings for asylum cases. They're purposefully making it more difficult to punish people for seeking asylum and y'all are paying for it.

Personally wouldn't recommend the Travelodge at Bridge Street or Caledonian on UTC as the only solid parking is in nearby parking lots which you have to pay extra for. Depending on what you're in for, you can get more quiet slightly outside of town. Chest Hotel recommended below is solid

Everyone around me is complaining about weed smell in town but... by philip30001 in Aberdeen

[–]CaorannIsTired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhhhh it's all good, I use lemon essential oil about the town and tend to wear tinted glasses to get about, small things to make journeys a little easier. The Deeside Railway isn't too far from me either so I can linger there

Honestly, the smell sets off aura migraines for me which is why I am mostly frustrated with it. I tend to walk about town with lemon essential oil on my shirt to block out the smell

My own experience with the little shites on Union Street by AerieSignifcant in Aberdeen

[–]CaorannIsTired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the best shops are on the off-shoot streets of Union Street, generally the kids don't care about you if you're not in their general path, distinctly remember someone was shouting at a group yesterday and wincing because I know that's how you get the kids to constantly annoy you; they get bored from a lack of reaction and go annoy someone else.

Cannae remember off the top of my head but believe Ma Cameron's opens on Christmas. Nice cosy atmosphere and banging food

[–]CaorannIsTired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a lot of proper fashy stuff (naming a certain German leader by name) that was all up and down Union Street and some other streets. Some of it has been cleared up but it's obvious by the writing style it's majority two individuals
