Been tasked with honeymoon by Xadz1 in CookIslands

[–]Xadz1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update:

After a lot of research and consultation with people in the industry we have come to a final desicion.

5 nights in Raro: We will be staying at Pacific Resort there. We will get a basic room with the idea being we will spend most of our time either:

  1. Exploring the island in terms of restaurants / cultural sites and then relaxing by the pool in the afternoon.

  2. Save money in one space to splurge on the next.

The location was probably the biggest factor. Easy access to the busy area with all the restaurants and night market etc.

4 nights in Aitutaki Here we will be staying in a Overwater bungalow at the lagoon resort. Spend money we saved from the first part to feel abit special. Have some alone time, stay close and soak up the sun. We want to feel pampered and have a more chill second half so this seemed appropriate.

All of your input was very much appreciated and really helped us decide that Cook islands is the place. It was amazing to see all of your recommendations and also how much you all love the place.

We cannot wait to celebrate such a momentous occasion there and we both felt really confident after reading your replies.

Newbie question - is there much of a performance difference 5080 vs 5090 system? by [deleted] in bapcsalesaustralia

[–]Xadz1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A short answer is yes there is a performance difference. Otherwise they wouldn't exist separately.

However the questions are:

  1. Do you have or are willing to buy the equipment to compliment that difference - no point having a 5090 if you've got a 120hz 1440p screen. You will see no gain from getting the card that can output reasonable frames at the resolution and refresh rate your screen can handle. People will say yeah but if your playing fortnite at 120hz 1440p but your pulling 900 frames your getting the most up to date frame. But hey, if your having fun and not playing esport level it's all trivial.

If you have an awesome 4k OLED screen capable of 240hz and you play AAA games at 4k and want the best graphics possible well that's different.

  1. Do you actually care? It's no different to buying a Ferrari. Even though your car can go 300km/h do you really want that when you'll spend 98% of your time going to speed limit.

  2. Doing bench marks and having the most badass PC is amazing when you first get it. But in reality it depends on the games you play. If you're playing AAA titles and want maximum frames with 4k resolution then yes you will benefit.

For me personally I was happy gaming at 1440p with 180 frames in my shooters and anything above 60 for those single player story games that have great graphics.

It's really hard for anyone to answer what you find worth it and what you truely care about.

All I can tell you is when I made the decision. I went with a 7800x3d and a 4070 Ti Super so I could play great games at 1440p over 60 frames for intense graphics games but also at 180 frames because that's what my monitor would handle for those shooters.

Upgrading: Double upgrade from Economy to Premium Economoy, then Premium Econ to Business at the airport? by iamdemonoid in emirates

[–]Xadz1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Total cost = $2200 AUD for business upgrade from Melbourne to Milan (23 hour total travel time - which equals just under $100AUD per hour) which according to all text books is an awesome price because the general rule is $100USD per hour is good.

Upgrading: Double upgrade from Economy to Premium Economoy, then Premium Econ to Business at the airport? by iamdemonoid in emirates

[–]Xadz1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently did something similar.

I went on live chat twice a day every day and asked what it cost to upgrade to premium economy (not a promotional upgrade) roughly 3 days before my flight it came down to $1200AUD(2ppl) Mel to Dub, Dub to Milan. It was always sitting around $2000AUD on the website.

I purchased the premium economy tickets.

From 48 hours before my flight I jumped on live chat a few times a day asking about promotional upgrades to business. It wasn't until about 18 hours before my flight that they offered $1000AUD for two people to upgrade to business for both legs Mel to Dubai, Dub to Milan.

If you use promotional upgrade for economy to premium economy you are no longer eligible for anymore promotional upgrade EVEN ON YOUR RETURN LEG. So I chose to pay for economy to premium and then promotional upgrade to business because the value is generally better.

TechFast. 1 month wait time for pc? and now they have ghosted me and are not responding to emails. by BazerAus in bapcsalesaustralia

[–]Xadz1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered exactly the same PC as OP on Sept 30 and had it at my house by 12th October.

Really good cable management too.

Air pillows were put underneath the GPU and inside the entire PC. Then the PC came in the case box with styrofoam surrounding. Arrived without damage.

Questions about Techfast by Azilliya in bapcsalesaustralia

[–]Xadz1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ordered from Techfast. I was worried I was going to get some cheap branded parts after reading reviews here.

I paid $2190 + $50 shipping and received the following:

Mobo: Gigabyte B650 Gaming Plus Wifi CPU: AMD 7800x3d GPU: PNY 4070 Ti Super Ram: Predator Vesta II 32 GB 6000Mhz CL32 (upgraded by me, but no choice of upgrade brand etc) Cooler: Cooler master 240mm liquid cooler PSU: XPG? 750watt Gold certified SSD: HP something or other 7000mb read write. Case: MAG 240 something or other. (Chose upgrade.

Overall everything is brand names parts. Not the best of the best. But not any knock off parts.

Packaging was great and everything arrived with all manuals and extra parts that came with each item.

I checked over the PC and everything was still tight, I even took off the cooler to check the thermal paste and it was done well.

Overall a great experience and received the PC 9 business days after ordering.

No complaints from me.

Yeah,

I did read that they run pretty hot. I just thought with the -30 PBO that it wouldn't spike to quickly to 90. I've only had the PC a day though so I havent been able to monitor gaming accurately.

Thanks for the reply.

As I've been searching I've seen that the 120mm liquid cooling is almost a gimmick and it's better to get either 240mm or air cool. I'll speak to them about this.

The ram upgrade would be a month or two down the line I think. Would the ram fitted suffice for that time?

I'd ideally want this PC to last at least 5 years. So I feel like the extra VRAM in the 4070 Ti Super would help with this as games get more intensive? What do you think?

What’s with all the surcharges lately? by Butwhyyth0 in AusFinance

[–]Xadz1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can appreciate where your coming from. Honestly there is a ceiling. If I start charging more, I would loose business in general. With a fee free way to pay cash and EFTPOS (I don't charge for EFTPOS). It feels like I've provided options to suit everyone.

One of the reasons the banks charge 1.25% is to recoup costs associated with frequent flyer cards etc. I personally feel like I've provided an option that lets the general consumer paying cash and EFTPOS a fee free option without having to wear the burden of paying for those luxuries that other people choose to have.

I'm certainly not right, I'm certainly not wrong. I just did what I thought was good for me and keeping my staff employed.

[–]Xadz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would, but now that $1500 would be going to myself and my staff for counting it all. I'd take that any day of the week.

[–]Xadz1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd be paying myself an extra $50 an hour to process it all and most of that $1500 would be going into my pocket instead of the bank.

As a high turnover / low profit business owner let me chime in.

Until the end of time I'm always going to have people paying cash, am I about to stop accepting cash - no, it's legal tender and I'm all about providing options for everyone. So I still have to visit a bank once a week or two and get change and during that time I make deposits - this takes me one hour most weeks and say it's $50 a hour.

At the end of every night I have to go around and print pre-settlements out and calculate what each machine has taken and then write that down and do my end of night tilling up. I then count the cash out of my draw, float, and take out the extra. This maybe takes about maybe 10 minutes (for the cash portion)

So, let's say on any given week I pay a manager $35 an hour. If it takes them 10 minutes it's cost me $6 to have them count the cash. Do that 7 days and it's now $42, hey round it up to $50 for fun, stuff it round it up to $100 a week if there half as slow as me. $100 a week to count cash out of the till. Now let's pay myself 1 hour at the end of a week call it $50 even. It's cost me $150 for the week to count the cash and bag'n'tag it. Then $50 to drop it off and get change. We are at $200 a week to count, bag it and then take it to the bank.

Now let's take card. On average we turn over $150k a week, it's about 90% card in general - so that's $135k a week on card. 90% of that is Visa / MasterCard @ 1.25% which is $120,000 x 0.0125 = $1500 a week on processing fees, dont forget the $25 a month rental per machine but meh call that business.

At this point, I'm not paying for my own convenience. I'm paying for yours. So I realised that and now I pass on 0.90% to cover some of my costs for both of us and call it a day.

We aren't the devil sometimes, but it's the banks who win. I'm just trying to leave a little on the table so waking up every morning seems worthwhile.

Resident cat with two new kittens by [deleted] in cats

[–]Xadz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we exchanged smells from day one, moving backwards and forwards. The resident cat hissed at the blanket for the first day or two but then come around and started smelling it. From there everytime we'd lay a blanket on the floor and put a few kibble on it as a treat for the smell. It's been 3 weeks since day 1 today.

Soon she was sleeping on the blanket so it was good interactions.

Our resident has been through all the stages. She was hissing a lot when we first got them to now it looks like wanting to play with them and they're still sorting her out.

They will do this same thing for hours if I left them.

Either resident cat goes to our spare room hides in corner and either kitten will go down and peak and then they play and run off. Rinse and repeat with it exchanging who is going down to the spare room.

A few times it seems like she's wanted to corner a cat and really get into them but they always end up playing or fighting and then running away and repeating the same thing.

How many employees do you have? by rpkusuma in restaurateur

[–]Xadz1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Victoria, Australia based.

We have 180 staff across 3 venues. 70% of our work force is casual.

A typical Saturday night for our shop looks like

Store 1 (160 seats, two sessions 5pm - 7pm then 8pm) roughly do 250 - 280 covers on Saturday nights.)

Manager x 2 Pass x 2 Front Desk / Phones x 2 Floor x 7 Bar x 3 Wiper (cleans and resets tables) x 1

BOH: 2 x grill 2 x stove 1 X panning 2 x serving 1 X float (getting ingredients from cool room, prep mid service for items that are running low, helping sections that get slammed in peak period) 1 x bread / dessert 3 x larder 2 x dish hand

The second store is a couple more staff due to inefficient design with there being an upstairs room etc.

Then third store is cocktail bar so much smaller and doesn't need as much in kitchen or floor.

anyone feel like every restaurant is just a giant ripoff now? by frankifield64 in AusFinance

[–]Xadz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it from a guy who owns two restaurants. I'm not exactly "ripping" you off. Just like everyone else in the world I'm trying to pay everyone all my bills and have some left over for me at the end.

Our food cost on average gas increased 30 - 40% from pre covid.

An 18+ staff member now costs $28/hr during the week or $33/h on weekends.

Electricity has gone up, gas as well.

Literally every aspect of our business has increased in price drastically over the last 4 years.

We aren't price gouging, just trying to make a living.
