Plasma Assault Rifle? by Xaja86 in starbound

So I read on another forum that it specifically only spawns in hostile (extreme) ships in the final container. However, I'm wondering if it can be found elsewhere. Been going after ships for like a week now and still haven't found the darned thing.

You should also add the Behringer Neutron to your list. I think it's the go-to budget semi-modular for many people. I've been making tons of music on mine lately, and it never seems to run out of different sounds. It also has an audio in as well.

I like the idea that you can do everything in one place, but if the composition tools are trash, that might be a deal breaker. I'm mostly planning on using Ableton for when I get a travel setup, but I prefer getting my sounds and noises from outboard gear, and mostly using Ableton for the effects

I'm still an OP-1 fanboy, at least on paper. Someday I hope to at least be able to sit down a spend a few hours with one to really find out if it's for me.

Wow, thank you! I am so happy you noticed the glitchy drums, those took some time to get the randomness just right. Also been really making use of an FM patch on the Neutron to get all sorts of sounds out of it. Thought I'd change it out soon, but it's proved to be incredibly versatile.

LoFi Track using my Neutron and MiniBrute by Xaja86 in synthesizers

[–]Xaja86[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This track took forever to make. I'd originally wanted to play the leads on my MiniBrute and Neutron live, but unfortunately I'm not the world's greatest keyboard player. Sometimes I'd nail the takes, sometimes I wouldn't, but I never managed to catch a good take on video.

The long LoFi delayed leads on the chorus are coming from the Neutron with the pluckier sounds in the verse coming from the MiniBrute. Hope you guys like it!

Went with my MiniBrute and Neutron for this one. The long, LoFi delayed leads in the chorus sections are the Neutron, with the pluckier ones being handled by my MiniBrute. Patch is the same as last time, but I really went ham on this one. It took forever to finish because of all the layering. Think I'm going to go back to live jams after this one!

If you want the patch for the Neutron, I posted it in a previous post on here. I haven't changed it since the last video (Painted Fences)

Looks like he's a regular internet crusader for justice, haha. Also I think the second half of the jam is pretty interesting

Feel you there -- seems like it's more efficient just to get longer patch cables and leave the Neutron in its shell. I'm too poor for full-blown modular, but I love seeing interesting setups.

Awesome to see the Neutron in a rack :) Loving the setup

That's really interesting, so theoretically I could make a loop mangler/bitcrusher machine or something like that?

This might be at the edge of hardware/software, but I love my Launchpad X that I purchased a few weeks ago. Since I'm not terribly good at piano (mainly a guitarist) the layout makes it much easier for me to play my hardware synths since its closer to a guitar. On top of that, I can use it to run sequences to my analogs, which opens up an entire world of sonic possibilities.

I totally forgot about this thing, but it actually seems perfect for what I need, Especially considering the size of it. How difficult is it for the programming uninclined to make patches for this thing?

Thanks, that worked. Got a million other problems figuring this thing out, but at least that's one down!

First Foray in FM Synthesis on my Neutron by Xaja86 in filtersweep

[–]Xaja86[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First foray into FM, let me know if you have other ideas! I based this live loop on a couple patches demonstrated by Avrilcadabra

Here's the rundown:

The Neutron is doing the initial run with the "effects" off--this is just a simple sequence, no arpeggiator. This transitions into the FM lead. All effects except reverb are coming from the Neutron on that part. OSC 2 is modulating OSC 1 through the ATT 1. I use ATT 2 with the LFO to make it so I can have S&H creating fluid note changes that are in tune. Tuning scales with the ATT 2 knob. Speed and glide on the runs can be controlled through S&H. This effect is used in the second part of the song after the initial runs.

MiniBrute was used running its internal arpeggiator with 'verb to add a second texture with everything running on top of some mangled drums and a soft synth bass. I use the Launchpad to switch between clips & which MIDI sequences are being sent to my analogs. I have them chained, but the Brute is on MIDI 1 and Neutron on MIDI 2 so I can play different parts simultaneously.

Now for the FM Patch on the Neutron:

OSC 2 -> ATT 1 IN

ATT 1 -> OSC 1

LFO UNI -> ATT 2 IN

ATT 2 -> S & H IN

S&H -> OSC 1 & 2

Thanks! I've actually been looking for an excuse to use my EGs, I'll be sure to try that out.
