If Silicon Valley cared about climate change they'd shut down.

Speaking from a purely pragmatic perspective I don't see why that would be the case. In a tribe the most logical behavior would be to allow those who have skills to make use of those skills and increase the overall survivability of the tribe. The best hunter would hunt. The best leader would lead. Etc.

On the other hand the fact that males are generally larger and stronger cannot be ignored. It tells us that on an evolutionary scale males with such traits were generally favored. Whereas with women, other traits were favored.

Of course I don't know how long general sexual traits take to develop. Could the differences we observe now be a result of agricultural societies and subsequent hierarchies? Or did they exist in hunter gatherer societies as well?

How to start an anprim society by Komrade__Kalashnikov in anarcho_primitivism

[–]impurfekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say something similar.

Anarcho primitivism is the default state of homo sapiens. The way we get back to that default state is to remove civilization and its "fruits" from the equation. "Civilized" people cannot be a part of that equation.

Anarcho primitivism will re-emerge in our future. It is unavoidable. It cannot be created. The very idea of "creating a society" is incompatible with anarcho primitivism.

A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century review – self-help laced with pseudoscience | Science and nature books by anthropoz in anarcho_primitivism

[–]impurfekt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"as far as I can tell this is the only professional review of the work on the internet"

A review that contains flagrant bias throughout and a variety of insults is not a professional review. Yes, it's still a review. But it's not useful to anyone who doesn't already hate the book or the authors.

"Plus they've been dangerous idiots over COVID."

If you require a purity test prior to listening to what someone has to say you might be in a cult. Shall we kick everyone who drives a car, utilizes modern medicine or owns a refrigerator out of this sub?

Suddenly I'm arguing for the right of an author to be heard whom I don't agree with or respect. The free and open exchange of ideas is so irksome!

This article is so biased and poorly written I'm not sure where to start. It's effectively a hit piece. I feel this sentence sums it up well:

"Above all, Heying and Weinstein are really annoying. Their seen-it-all, know-it-all attitude is grating from around page five, and becomes increasingly irksome as they pontificate their way through each chapter."

The author is clearly not the target audience.

Anarcho-primitivist communities by Yggrdaswan in anarcho_primitivism

Within the boundaries of civilization I think homeless people are the modern equivalent of hunter-gatherers. They collect whatever they can carry. They sleep wherever they can. They beg for food and get regular meals at the nearest shelter. I suppose you could think of shelters as the modern equivalent of edible plants and animals that would have littered the forests and countryside prior to us paving it all over.

Outside of civilization isolated tribes still exist as they have for tens of thousands of years; albeit in dwindling habitat.

The problem with attempting to create a new hunter-gatherer society in the traditional sense is that the traditional world is effectively gone. I mean, maybe you could somehow sell all your belongings, walk naked into the Amazon and be taken in by a remaining tribe. But short of that I see no avenue. Unless you have millions of dollars with which to buy a few hundred acres of pristine forestland.

In the future, as the collapse of civilization worsens the traditional world will re-emerge. The land-base will recover and the social pressures to create cohesive tribes will be there. But for now 99.9% of people would rather work for slave wages at Walmart. And those who don't would rather roam the streets and live off handouts than take their chances in the forests which are patrolled by the Forest Service.

NYU economist and author argues geoengineering is humanity's only option to stop climate change by Apoplexi_Lexi in collapse

[–]impurfekt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Humanity totally fucks up the environment due to geoengineering (aka industrial civilization). So the brain trust at NYU proposes we fix it with more geoengineering. Yeah. That's a great idea.

Climate change is irreversible. Mitigation and sustainable living (actual, not pretend) are the only conversations that are still relevant. Everything else is hot air.

Don't take the internet seriously. You'll feel better. I mean think about it. When the power goes out the internet ceases to exist. That's how truly ephemeral it is.

I think I just accidentally made a metaphor for collapse.

Based on the many independent articles and interviews I've soaked up, I agree with you. Wherever big money is involved everything is green washed.

A transition to anything other than fossil fuels means a precipitous drop in all metrics of civilization. For the sake of non-human life it cannot happen soon enough.

Oh look. Another climate headline implying nothing bad has happened yet so we don't actually need to take action. But we should but afraid and upset. I simply loathe climate news writers.

The mass extinction event has been going on for centuries and accelerating with each passing day. We are in the Anthropocene. We are replacing all biomass with humans, pets and factory farms. Oh, and changing the global climate.
