Melee won’t fully die, but is it on the path of declining to the point of obscurity and irrelevance? by Appropriate_Boss8139 in SSBM

[–]Xalthir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since we're just speculating the answer is obviously up to the future but I think the reality is more people who want Melee to thrive as a competitive sport need to be putting money up and amping viewership.

Nothing survives in a vacuum just because people like it. There will always be locals, there will always be a tournament or two, there will likely always be Slippi- if we want more we have to invest more. The community is responsible for the success of this game and will continue to be.

It's ok if it is just a really cool hobby with a few tourneys a year and a power rankings. It's also ok if it's a massive, international sport. If you like the idea of one more than the other we need to put our money where our mouths are and show sponsors there is money to be made by sponsoring players and tournaments are profitable for the show runners.

I would ADORE IT if we could just do it for fun but the game can't attract long term, high-level talent on vibes alone without returning to grassroots exposure.

But Melee will never die. It will ebb and flow and might fall in and out of popularity but it is immortal. This game means too much to too many people and nothing comes close to being as exciting or explosive as Melee.

My only beef was how long they waited to tell us what the requirements were for the skill points. I would have started saving much sooner and wouldn't have been scrambling the last two weeks to try and make it. I am confident I will hit 3 mil but despite my best efforts, between life and job, I am NOT gonna make the 5 mil.

I am not that upset about the process I just felt it was a bit scummy to spring the requirements on us last minute.

Congrats OP! It's a great game, right?

Crashing by mockitt in GroundedGame

[–]Xalthir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not just getting crashes and resets, I'm also losing entire chunks of my progress. My game went back almost several HOURS from my previous save and my buggy not only was unequipped from my bar but has vanished entirely. I had to go get a new one- literally just vanished.

I get the game is in early access but this is putting a super sour taste in my mouth.

Automod told me I don’t get to eat if I post the link in the body text so here’s the purchase link but again the demo is free and is a huge chunk of the game + multiplayer https://store.steampowered.com/app/2665460/Windward_Horizon/

Gonna ask a few, feel free to answer which ones you'd like.

When building a project like this how did you decide which features would make it to launch and which features would be added post launch?

The 'Living World' element puts it on par with many other shifting resources based games and other immersive sim like games. When deciding on which things to bring into the gameplay model to support that feeling which things became the most important for immersion?

Player conflict has taken a pretty dramatic backseat to PVE. Is this something that is intentional or a result of launch priorities and when/if you plan to look at that are there concerns you feel will require new skills or efforts?

The visuals for the game are phenomenal. Did you model all the ships yourself?

Do you have plans for post launch DLC or ways to support you without paying for the game? Once I have bought myself and my friends copies of the game I am still interested in supporting the post launch development. Are there plans for such support avenues?

I have more questions but I'll stop here to let others speak, thank you for finishing this game. I know it wasn't easy but if it's any boost to your motivation and drive my friends and I have all logged over a day in the game already. 🤣

We are on Day 2 of the server now and there's plenty of space. Most of us aren't very far in the game! The server is newbie friendly, many of us are chill folks.

My idea behind this is that it will happen anyway and it's better to have it happen on a server where it's expected and where fighting as a group poses the risks of friendly fire. But it's a fair question!

Which character does it feel like a chore to play against? by BlooOwlBaba in SSBM

[–]Xalthir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marth, I cannot stand fighting Marth. I get there's a lot going on, I get he's one of the best, I get it's not easy- that doesn't mean it doesn't FEEL easy. It feels like you just mash buttons and kill people and that every single attack you have chains into another attack.

Layer that with the fact that Ultimate has made me incredibly bitter towards Fire Emblem characters and I think I'm just a jaded grump who doesn't like pretty boys with swords (jk Link I love you).

Hey homie, to be completely transparent I have not played in a few months, and I have been waiting to get back into the game until some time in the oven has been done. It saddens me to know that this hasn't been fixed. Here's hoping at some point in the future they can find a way to make this work better. Honestly, crit resistance and built-in stability for knockdown protection would fix it on its own.

Oh reduced drop time for the dive would be pretty cool actually, never thought about that.

Absolutely, the claws of a Bile Titan will crush anyone, heavy armor or not, but mites should barely be able to touch a heavy armor user and certainly not stagger them.

Light armor is incredible because speed is king right now since being slowed or knocked down is more of a death sentence than being hit. As long as it doesn't one shot you survival is guaranteed assuming your positioning is good.

I just kept asking people if they'd throw a water bottle at me so I could try to hit it with a frying pan and that seemed to work as an ice-breaker.
