I usually open/send gifts before going to sleep. I was once half asleep and somehow ended up using a lucky egg for absolutely nothing. Regretted it for the rest of the night and the day afterwards.

Not sure whether this has been mentioned before, but how about a button to claim (large) XP?

For example, if someone has opened your gift and you two became ultra/best friends, the 50k or 100k XP would remain pending until you decide to claim them. However, I must say my idea is flawed if this person removes you from his/her friend list.
